Facebook: 1 EYF site: 0...
[21.8.09]
The EYF site has had an awesome rollercoaster run, but its getting old >< Despite a fair effort to teach it a few party tricks: EYF forum... fail. EYF photos! ... fail. EYF Calendar! .. fail... You can't teach an old dog new tricks!
so it will have to be put down *sob sob*
but don't fret! The EYF site's going to bigger and better places: and will be integrated into a Facebook Group!
What does this mean for me?
- I can now post photos and videos of EYF onto the Facebook Group!
- I can now SPAM on the EYF wall! =D
- I can now ask questions on the discussion forums! and plan out our next social!
- I can now invite friends to EYF events via Facebook!
A few things to note:
- As a precaution, [due to photos + videos of EYF] we must restrict it to people who come to EYF: not friends of friends of friends.
- The existing EYF site will still be available, and will still have the essential info about EYF, but will not be updated regularly, since all the action's happening on Facebook!
- You will need a Facebook Account to be able to access the EYF Facebook Group
Go make one here
so bookmark our EYF Facebook Group! [0 comments...] [Post a Comment] [mail this]
Doug's cathartic Moment #2
[21.4.09]
Every day, we're faced with thousands of decisions, both conscious and unconscious! this morning, it was "should i bother lining up, and buy a cityrail ticket?"
As christians, we die to our old ways of sin, and live for Christ Jesus! Though it may seem a burden at times (waiting minutes upon minutes at pedestrian crossings, spending hundreds on authentic software etc), i've found that its actually been less of a burden!
Having our hearts and minds as one with Christ Jesus (through him too), decision making has never been easier! We no longer have to consider that alternative of sinning, since we've died to our old selves and we're following Christ! we no longer have to consider running that red light, or illegally downloading that latest hit single! Because Jesus has set us free from the slavery of Sin.
Faced with thousands of decisions every day, may i suggest that until we have that child-like faith Jesus talked about (where we do what's right, and trust God to sort it out), we'll still be burdened with the weight of sin.
i believe... that there'll be consequences...
[27.2.09]

Continuing on from our series of "i believe..." (God, creation...), this week we have a new study on Consequences.
Meet our new team of actors: Elfie the elephant, Trevor the Moose, and Pandy + Betty! They'll be helping us out by reenacting some typical scenarios that we might face...
So come to EYF this week and find out what'll happen to Elfie the Elephant!
[Doug writes...] lookin for expert advice...?
[26.2.09]
Just the other day [19th Feb] i was hanging out in the city with my friend. One of the stores which stood out, funnily enough was Dymocks: The Expert Advice Store.
Now i was wondering what sort of expert advice they could offer: was it going to help me in my meta-gaming, or teach me a trick or two in completing guitar hero on expert?
no, taking a glance down the staircases [as seen in the photos] were shelves upon shelves of books, labeled 'Religion, New Age, Motivation, and Motivation [again].

Sure enough, book-writers are often smarter than their readers, but how foolish is it to think: "i don't know where my life's heading, i need religion, newage-ism and motivation from a book store", when we have a god who is the creator and sustainer of all things! who knows us inside-out, and cares for us personally!
So next time you feel a little lost, don't look for 'expert advice' from humans, find it from God.
Mission Convention! =O
[19.2.09]
heey guys!
on the 13th March is MISSION CONVENTION!
its a special week where we find out what our Mission is!
no, its not like some james bond mission you play in Goldeneye 64, nor is it some self-set goal, like 'i'm gunna force myself to sleep by not breathing'... No, Mission is something that all Christians are appointed by Jesus to do!
we are called by Jesus to "go and make disciples of all nations". What does that mean? what does it look like?
Find out at Mission Convention 09!

EYF CAMPPPP!
[7.7.08]
heeey everyone!
we're all back from EYF camp now!
hope you guys all enjoyed it heaps! and yeahh for those of you who missed out, don't worry!
Anthony Chung from Penno Baptist gave us 3 really really awesome talks from Galatians 5-6, and to sum it up in 1 sentence: We're free in Christ, and we can do anything we want! we can never be condemned by God for doing wrong, if we're in Christ!
Check out [Romans 8:1] - "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus"
But one sentence can't grasp the full message that Anthony gave..
see that 'box' at the bottom corner of the site? type 'talks' in there, and you can download the recordings for the 3 talks that Anthony gave! note: the talks are big.. around 40mbs each.
So read [Galatians 5-6] then listen up to the talks!

Parents Night! [11th April]
[5.4.08]
Next week, on the 11th April, its PARENTS NIGHT! which means that we invite our parents along to EYF, as if they're the youth, and so they get an idea of what we do at EYF, so they can sorta know what's going on around @ EYF, how we run the nights, and what we can work on.
I hope last week's bible study on the Lord's Prayer was really good, this week we're going to dig deeper in the issue Does God answer our Prayers?
So See you [and possibly your parents! =P] at EYF this week!

Mission Convention!
[14.3.08]
Foreword: I was quite disappointed today, because of some people's mindsets towards mission. Especially after Last week's introduction: 'who cares about mission', i would've expected a bigger turnout this week, as we KNOW that its so important for others to know Christ! So unless your reason was that 'we don't CARE about mission', there should've been no reason dogging it! But nevertheless...
Mission convention was great! Bruce Dipple from SMBC came for a short talk, about how Mission is making Jesus known to the world! and as Christians, we should follow god's will, whereever he may take us. If you want to read more about it, go to the [Previously...] menu! It's got a summary of almost everything we've done in EYF =]Next week 21st March is Good Friday! Bring your friends along to our Jazz night where we'll have lots of music, food, and Enoch will give us a short talk on why we celebrate Easter! There's no EYF on the 28th March. you can stay home and rest, or do other stuff! =]

[6.3.08]
Hey everyone! as you may have heard from last week, There's lots of exciting things happening @ EYF! [Aren't there alwayys? the crazy month of March and its festivities with the mission convention, the good friday Jazz night etc =P] but what's even cooler is that EYF is having its own T-Shirt!
... you heard correctly! EYF is having its own T-Shirt! and its going to be so awesome! T-shirts are such a great way of letting others know about your youth group, raising awareness out there, and its just soo great for the spirit of our youth group! One thing that we didn't mention on Friday, was that The T-Shirts are only $10 now!! So go order one NOW! [yes i mean NOW!]; ask Emma about them, and hand in all your parents forms etc. by 18th April! If you don't have a form, you can print one off here: tshirt_form.doc
And also, EYF is having their Biennial EYF camp! [Biennial means that it happens once every 2 years.. there's a new word for you!]. It's going to be an awesome camp, and it's happening at the 4-6th July at Springwood! So mark that in your diaries, make sure you don't forget about it!
For the weeks coming up:
[5.3.08]
7th March - Ever wondered what mission really is? why christians spend so much time and money telling others about christ? Simmie will be visiting EYF, to give us a little talk about it!
14th March- Mission Convention: Following up the 7th March, the Church will run a mission convention! and we've invited several guests over [Rev. Dr. Bruce Dipple, Steve Windsor, and Johan Linder], so it'll be a very enjoyable and interesting night!
21st March - Good Friday! Our church will be running a Jazz night! There'll be awesome music, awesome food, even a talk from our good old Enoch Law, giving us an explanation of what Easter is about.
28th March - Break: there's no EYF.
So EYF is loaded in March! Come along, bring your friends! cuz it'll be a month full of festivities =P
