SMMLTA Rules
incl. Doubles-Only Competitions and Hot Weather Policy

(Basic playing rules only. Go to the Downloads page for the full constitution.)


1.       MATCHES START AT 8.45am. 
              a) Be at your match venue at 8.30am for warm-up.
              b) Matches must start at 8.45am. If you arrive after 8:30am, there is NO warm-up.
              c) Forfeits can be claimed for doubles after 9:00am.
          
2.       Competition Formats
            (See below.)

4.        Balls - Min of 4 new balls per match.  Teams, particularly Div 1, may use extra balls.

5.        Hot Weather Policy - If the Friday night forecast for Saturday is:
         
    a) 36 degrees or more, then all doubles and singles 3rd sets are super tie-breakers,
             
b) 40 degrees or more, then all matches are automatically cancelled.

             
NOTE:   The Bureau of Meterology (BOM) put out a new forecast around 5:00pm which is used
                            by all the media channels. This is what we rely on. Some phone apps don't use the BOM,
                            so don't rely on them.


6.        Cancellations:
           Cancellations due to inclement weather will be posted on the website by 7:45am.

6.        Match Scores -
         
Scores are to be entered on Leagues.tennis.com.au by both captains by 8:30pm
         
Tuesday following the match. Massive Penalties for late or missing entries.

7.        Disputes - we don't have then in SMMLTA. Captains must negotiate any problems
           before handing anything on to the disputes committee.


Competition Formats


1.       Doubles & Singles
                - All matches are 2 doubles and 4 singles rubbers.
                - Up to 8 players allowed per match.
                - All rubbers are best of 3 six-game sets with a normal
                   tie-breaker to be played at 5 all in each. (In singles, if
                   (both players agree, 3rd set can be a super tie-break.)

 2.      Doubles-Only - 3 player (Div 1)
                - all matches consist of 3 doubles rubbers.
                - Up to 5 players allowed per match.
                - Players are ranked 1 to 4. (Rubbers played 1-2, 1-3, 2-3.)
                - All rubbers are best of 3 sets. The first 2 sets are six-game
                   sets with a normal tie-breaker at 5 all.  3rd sets are super
                   tie-breakers - unless both teams agree to play a full 3rd set.
 
  3.     Doubles-Only - 4 player (Div 2 & 3)
                - all matches consist of 4 doubles rubbers.
                - Up to 6 players allowed per match.
                - Players are ranked 1 to 6. (Rubbers played 1-2, 3-4, 1-3, 2-4.)
                - All rubbers are best of 3 sets. The first 2 sets are six-game
                   sets with a normal tie-breaker at 5all. All 3rd sets are super
                   tie-breakers  - unless both teams agree to play a full 3rd set.

If the Friday night forecast for Saturday is 36 degrees or more, then:
- all doubles and singles 3rd sets are super tie-breakers.

If the Friday night forecast for Saturday is 40 degrees or more, then:
- all all matches are automatically cancelled.
