Gayundah at rest. HMQS Gayundah lies at Picnic Point, near Woody Point on the Redcliffe Peninsula. Redcliffe is located just north of Brisbane, capital city of the state of Queensland, Australia. Despite her inglorious end, this vessel has a fascinating but largely forgotten history. Here you have the opportunity to learn about this vessel, a gunship which along with her sister ship, Paluma, formed the backbone of the fledgling Queensland Colonial Navy. Gayundah, along with the vessels of other Australian Colonial Navies, was absorbed into the Royal Australian Navy, following Australia's federation. Following retirement from the R.A.N. she began an altogether less glamorous civilian career, as you will see. Gayundah slowly ends her days as you see her in the photograph above. Once you have browsed these pages you will see that she was worthy of a more dignified end.
