The Addict and the Enabler

Some are angry
They are bored
They are envious
They are selfish
They drink too much alcohol
Or take many drugs
Or have one-night-stands regularly
Or work long hours
They are addicts.

Some are lonely
They feel inadequate
They don't know their needs
Others give them their wants
Others provide their needs
Others are their "drugs"
They take "hostages"
They think they are unselfish
They are enablers.

The addicts find enablers
The enablers find addicts
Both are bored with "normal" people.

The addicts like the love of the enablers
The enablers like the "strength" of the addicts
They use each other.

Sometimes the addict feels smothered
The enabler can't detach
The addict gets upset
The addict indulges in the addiction
Then the enabler gets upset
They fight
Later they make up
Often they do this for many years.

Sometimes the enabler wants to be loved
The addict can't sympathize
The enabler gets upset
The enabler stops loving
Then the addict get upset
They fight
Later they make up
Often they do this for many years.
