Voices

Al is 25 years old. He lives in a government apartment in Melbourne, Australia with his two children. His wife left him two years ago after a violent argument.

In the last year ASIO has send messages to him via US satellites. He is told that he is scum, that he is a criminal, that he is worthless, that he is a pedophile, that he hurts everyone he encounters, that he is dangerous and that even animals don't like him.

The voices tell him to commit suicide. Al thinks that the security organization ASIO wants him to die so that they can take control of his children and turn them into agents. Sometimes Al has doubts. Are the voices an illness?

Al is very upset. He considers whether he should fight ASIO. Should he go to the police? Should he phone a journalist who hosts a talk-back show on radio? Should he comply with the wishes of the voices? Should he speak to a priest about them? Should he consult a doctor?
