Playing Ball
By Nitro (The Greyhound)
He sits there very patiently,
His pricked ears to the stand,
Eyes focused - they are staring at
The ball that's in my hand.
I see in his expression,
A thought goes through his mind,
"Come on and throw the ball-will ya",
"Or I'll sit here and I'll whine."
So I threw the ball - he chased it,
And he has got the knack,
Of catching it in mid-flight,
But then won't bring it back.
Again, his mind is thinking,
"Two can play this game,"
"I'll make you chase me now,"
"And you're the one to blame."
"You wouldn't give it to me,
When I wanted it real bad,
So you can come and get it,
And I will drive you mad."
"I'll hold it tight between my teeth,
And wait till you're so near,
Then I'll take off like a rocket,
And then I'll disappear."
"Mum is getting puffed, I see,
And she might not want to play,
So I'd better give the ballie back,
So everything's ok."
"Mum and I have lots of fun,
She loves me oh so much,
She cuddles me and kisses me,
I love her gentle touch."
Be Proud
By Nitro (The Greyhound)
Sometimes I sit and wonder,
Why some people think we're bad,
Is it `cause we're wearing muzzles?
Or of the life we've had?
My Mum has told me things,
About dogs of my kind,
And I feel pretty special,
Are other people blind?
We are the ultimate athletes,
We can run so very fast,
We've been so respected,
By people in the past.
Pharaohs have adored us,
For our loyalty and our speed,
We were highly valued,
Yes we were - indeed.
Royalty in Britian,
Prized us for our look,
And it has been recorded,
We came here with James Cook.
So, why are people scared of us,
We're as loving as they come,
We're loyal and we are gentle,
It makes me oh so glum.
So why don't people realise,
We're special - yes indeed,
With qualities beyond those,
Of any other breed.
My Special Little Friend
By Nitro (The Greyhound)
While dozing on the lounge,
My legs stretched to the sky,
I have a strange sensation,
My friend is coming by.
In the distance I can hear,
A special sounding car,
It's getting close and I can tell,
It isn't very far.
I prick my ears as I hear-
It pulls into the street,
Yes - he's here - he's really here,
Someone I have to greet.
I stand here and I shiver,
With excitement on my face,
I wait for him to come to me,
He's coming to my place.
I really can't contain myself,
My tail is wagging fast,
My little human friend is here,
I can play with him at last.
I show him I'm excited,
And I bounce around the place,
He cuddles me and kisses me,
And a smile comes on my face.
We run and play around the yard,
`Til we're ready for a nap,
Then we lay upon the bed,
My head across his lap.
While dozing, I will look at him,
I hope he'll always say,
That he will always love me,
The way he does today.
