Arabica or Robusta?

The two main types of coffee bean available on the world market are `Arabica', and `Robusta'.  The Arabica bean is typically grown at high altitudes, is relatively low in caffeine and displays a full body and a pleasing range of flavours. Arabica is the best quality coffee. The Robusta bean is grown at low altitudes, is relatively high in caffeine, and typically has a pungent, strong flavour.  Robusta coffee is often cheaper, and sometimes of a lower quality.  Robusta is often used by large commercial coffee roasters to add flavour to a blend of poor quality beans. Most Robusta coffee is used in the manufacture of instant coffee.  Some coffee drinkers prefer the `bite' and pungency of a coffee blended with Robusta so we designed some blends to suit them.  At Highridge Coffee, we use a small amount of high quality Indian Kaapi Royale Robusta in our 'Neapolitan' and 'Milano' Blends, because we believe it suits the style, and our customers like the blends...All our other blends and single origins are pure Arabica...

Grinding

At your request, we can grind your beans...How fine you want the grind depends on your personal preference, but generally we would supply a coarse grind for a percolator, a medium grind for a Bodum (plunger) pot, and a finer grind for an espresso machine.

We recommend that if you are buying your coffee pre-ground, you only buy in smaller quantities so that you are always assured of drinking fresh coffee...

Organic and Fairtrade beans

If you prefer Organic or Fairtrade beans, we can roast and supply on request....check for the latest prices on these beans when ordering.

Rainforest Alliance

We support the Rainforest Alliance philosophy, and where possible, we use certified Rainforest Alliance beans in our blends...
