Round 7, 5-April-06 Cheltenham (12) def Princes (6)

Aaron Mahoney 2 def Rudy Sulaiman 1

A great match and these 2 might be the 2006 Victorian Championship finalists. Rudy opened the 1st frame with a 39 break but missed a risky red. After that Aaron took over and won it easily 78-40. In the 2nd Aaron looked to be making a break but broke down when he finished too low on the black, he missed it and Rudy stepped in with a 51 break… the colours were contested and Rudy ened up taking it easily. In the 3rd Rudy forced a couple of mistakes from Aaron and capitalized to lead 58-0 thanks to a 15 and 43 break. On his 43 break, Rudy missed an easy red with 4 reds left. Aaron stepped in and made a 59 clearance to win 59-58.

Darryl Tippett 3 def Henry Lau 0

A low quality encounter where the highest break was 20 something in 3 frames. However, good balls were potted and overall Darryl was too good for Henry and won 3-0.

Rod Nelson 2 def Steve Cain 1

The quality of this match was superb. In the 1st frame, Rod Nelson made a 34 and a 42 to win in 2 visits. In the 2nd, it was 20-20 but Steve won it with an excellent 76 break. In the 3rd, Rod won it in a couple of visits to win 2-1.

Justin Holland 2 def Peter Gray 1

Justin was too solid and took the 1st easily, Pete fought hard and lost a close 2nd frame. In the 3rd Pete needed a snooker, got the foul and went down to the black. Justin potted the black but went in-off to hand Pete the 3rd frame.

Ron Cole 0 lost to Ky Huynh 3

Ky was too solid and scored freely tonight. Ron never gave up but it was not his night.

Keith Jacobsen 3 def Remus Goh 0

In the 1st frame, Keith was potting balls like a madman and won 73-6. Remus kept trying but lost the next 2 on the colours… Keith played well and deserved his victory.

Round 6, 29-March-06 Princes (12) def RACV (6) back to top

Rudy Sulaiman 3 def Nick Provenzano 0

Overall Rudy was too solid and won easily making 2 58 breaks in the process. Nick fought hard but unfortunately it was not his night.

Henry Lau 2 def Manny Stefanou 1

At the start both had chances but the balls weren't ideally placed. After a few pots each and some safety shots Manny attempted a risky one. He missed and Henry

stepped in with a good 75 break. In the 2nd Manny was struggling and Henry won the frame easily. In the 3rd, Manny was fighting but still struggling and Henry

went for too many shots but still had a 20 point lead up to the last red. Manny knuckled down and stole the 3rd frame and taught Henry a good lesson.

Steve Cain 3 def George Hoy 0

George always makes you work hard and that's exactly what Steve had to do. Steve kept his focus to win 3 tough frames.

Peter Gray 2 def Rick Correnza 1

Peter was solid in the 1st 2 frames but Rick didn't give up and played well to get the 3rd.

Justin Tsang 2 def Dino K 1

Justin got the 1st easily, had to pot out to win the 2nd and Dino... like Rick, played well in the 3rd to pinch it.

Ky Huynh 0 lost to Dale McKay 3

Ky wasn't in the best of form and Dale is a very experienced player. Dale was just too good tonight and beat the best number 6 player in the comp 3-0.

Round 1, 22/02/2006 Princes (6) lost to Yarraville (12) back to top

Rudy Sulaiman 2 defeated Daniel Thorpe 1

Rudy had a good lead in the 1st, a good fight back from Daniel to force a black ball game and when Rudy left the black over the center pocket we thought it was over. But not to be… it was a dead straight shot and white was close to the cushion. Daniel decided to roll it in to prevent an in-off and missed. Rudy took it, gained momentum and took the 2nd as well. In the 3rd, Rudy didn’t make the most of his chances and Daniel potted the vital balls.

Henry Lau 0 lost to David Collins 3

Overall, David played good safety and potted the balls when he needed to.

David took the 1st comfortably. In the second, Henry needed all the colours. After a huge screw back shot on the yellow and landing perfect on the green, a clearance seemed favourable. Not to be, Henry immediately missed the green. David took the 2nd and ran away with it in the 3rd to win 3-0.

Peter Gray 0 lost to Robbie Ganson 3

Robbie Ganson was too solid for Peter Gray all night but Peter put up a good fight and never gave up.

Justin Tsang 2 defeated Alan Croft 1

Justin came out firing and won the first 2 frames with excellent potting. To Alan’s credit, he came back to take the 3rd with a 56 break.

Ky Huynh 1 lost to Gary Nunn 2

Ky was out of sorts and Gary showed good composure to take the 1st 2 frames. Ky kept fighting and won a gutsy 3rd frame on the black.

Remus Goh  1 lost to Adriam Hung 2

Adriam was hampered with a hamstring injury but that didn’t stop him winning the first 2 frames, then Remus stormed back to blow Adriam away in the 3rd frame.

Highest break: Alan Croft 56

Round 3, 8/3/2006 Brunswick (12) defeated Princes (6) back to top

Andrew Hicks 3 defeated Rudy Sulaiman 0

Andrew potted well and for 3 frames Rudy didn’t get many chances. Andrew’s combination of safety and medium range potting was superb and Rudy was in trouble a lot. Rudy never seemed to find his rhythym and Andrew took full advantage and also compiled a 53 break in process.

James Mifsud 2 defeated Henry Lau 1

Both players were a bit unsettled at the start but Henry potted some good balls to lead 20-0. With the reds spread Henry attempted a risky long red into the green corner knowing he would have an easy black if it went in. He missed and James made a good 30+ break and started to look more comfortable, Henry, feeling a bit annoyed from playing the previous risky red and handing James a great chance to settle himself, potted a red and missed a straight forward black off it’s spot and James came to the table and finished the frame off. In the 2nd, Henry was out of sorts and James built a 30+ point lead with 3 red left. Henry cleared to the blue and then played a bad safety shot and left blue close to the green corner pocket from long range, no problem for James and he went 2-0 up. 3rd frame, Henry started with a 20+ break, James replied with an excellent 37 and the scores became level when it got to the colours. James attempted a risky blue and left it over the pocket, Henry potted blue and pink to win the frame.

George Spiteri 3 defeated Steve Cain 0

All 3 frames were close and the 2nd was the highlight with George being 40+ ahead. Steve needed everything to win and on 38 he needed to pot the pink and screw back for the black with the rest. He didn’t screw back enough and left a difficult black and missed so the break finished on 44. George came back and potted the black from long range to go 2-0 up. The 3rd was also close and George won it on the pink.

Mark Bullen 2 defeated Peter Gray 1

This match proved to be a battle with Peter winning the 1st easily but Mark was more consistent in the end and got up 2-1

Angelo 1 lost to Justin Tsang 2

Justin was too solid in the 1st but in 2nd Angelo potted himself out of trouble and chipped away to level at 1-1. The 3rd was a repeat of the 1st and Justin’s safety and steady potting was too consistent and won 2-1.

Tony West 1 lost to Ky Huynh 2
Tony came out firing, made a 42 break and Ky could only watch. To Ky’s credit, came back and won a close 2nd and a close 3rd to win 2-1. Ky has an awesome “no fear” attitude.

Round 4, 15-March Princes (12) def Kings (6) back to top

Rudy Sulaiman 3 def Robin Beggs 0

In the 1st, Robin broke off and Rudy made a 55. In the 2nd , Robin didn’t make the most of his chances and Rudy won it easily to go 2-0 up. The 3rd was a battle, Robin chipped away and when it got to the colours Rudy needed everything. Rudy snookered robin but Robin potted a great yellow off the cushion so Rudy needed a snooker now. Rudy played several great snookers but Robin kept getting out of them until the last one which looked quite simple. Looked like robin had some unwanted side on the white causing him to miss and Rudy made a great clearance under pressure to steal it and win 3-0.

Henry Lau 1 lost to Sean Partridge 2

The 1st  was close where both players couldn’t make much of a break but good balls were potted. Up to the pink now and Sean needs just the pink. Henry played a good snooker and Sean fouled twice trying to hit the black. Henry only needs the pink now and after a safety exchange henry doubled it off 3 cushions to go 1-0 up. In the 2nd and 3rd Henry didn’t make the most of his chances and Sean scored heavily to win 2-1.

Steve Cain 2 def Sam Fitzerald 1

In the 1st Sam was out of sorts and Steve won it easily. In the 2nd Steve missed an easy red playing it with lots of side and Sam punished him with a 46 break for 1-1. Steve showed his class and regained control of the 3rd and won it easily for a 2-1 win.

Peter Gray 1 lost to Bernie Partridge 2

Not much happened in this marathon match, Bernie played better and got up 2-1.

Justin Tsang 3  def Jacob Streiff 0

This was Jacob’s 1st go in A-grade and showed potential. Justin however has a solid all round game and won 3 frames comfortably.

Ky Huynh 2 def Sompoh 1
Both players potted well and traded blows for 1-1 but in the 3rd Ky stepped up with a 46 break to blow Sompoh away 2-1.

Round 5, 22 March Kooyong (5) lost to Princes (13) back to top

Steve Mifsud 1 lost to Rudy Sulaiman 2

This was the match of the night but both players struggled. In the 1st frame, both players had plenty of chances but in the end Rudy had some luck and took it easily. In the 2nd, again both had chances but this time steve made the most of his with a 42 break to tie 1-1. The 3rd was similar but this time Rudy made a 30+ break and shortly after potted the yellow and steve needed a snooker but didn’t get it.

David Cosgriff 0 lost to Henry Lau 3

A shaky start for both with Henry chipping away and taking the 1st easily. The 2nd was close and david needed the green, brown and blue to take the frame. The green rattled and Henry was left a very thin cut to the middle. In it went and Henry nervously cleared to the pink to go 2-0 up. In the 3rd david came out firing and potted some very nice long shots. But David played a loose safety shot and left a red near the corner pocket. Henry potted it and compiled a 54 break to take the match 3-0.

Neil Croft 2 defeated Steve Cain 1

Steve looked to be the better player all night but Neil showed his fighting ability to win 2-1. Steve won the 1st easily with a 38 break. Neil won the 2nd on the black. In the 3rd, Steve made a superb 53 and looked to have it in the bag. Neil didn’t think so and made a 54 clearance to clinch it on the black. Great match.

Don Richter 2 defeated Peter Gray 1

A sea-saw match… Don won the 1st easily, Peter got the 2nd easily and Don got the 3rd easily thanks to a 38 break.

Ian Dale 0 lost to Justin Tsang 3

3 close frames but Justin did better at the end of each one to win 3-0. Both players played impressive safety shots.
