Mower Knobs
The original plastic knobs. The thread had stripped in one and
almost stripped in the other. I need all the practice at casting I can
get so that's why I didn't just buy a couple of new ones. The one on
the right has been bogged with body filler and the filler machined to
have a concave conical shape. This one will be used as the pattern.
Machining one of the freshly cast new knobs. Up close you can see
the sand roughness in between the serrations but in real life from a
couple of foot away it looks pretty good.
Another view.
Two new ones with new cup head bolts, now they lookin good.
Fitted on the handle of the old mower. The knobs are used to
loosen the handle so it will fold down for easier transport or storage.
Making something useful
(especially out of scrap) always gives me a boost. Although the
job spanned over several days, due to interruptions etc, the actual
project didn't take that long, so I'm happy. NOW back to the other
projects and jobs, you know how it is.
