If you missed the concert, read the review! Programme notes - Rachel Campbell again and again... music for cycles and instruments Christian Wolff Tilbury (complete) 1 August St Aidan's Church, Annandale @ 7.30 pm Kathleen Gallagher flutes Reducing music to pure cycles and arithmetic series, and at the same time opening new freedoms to its performers, Wolff's masterpieces are a cornerstone of New York School minimalism. Both stark and visceral, Wolff draws us to contemplate sonorities and their collisions. Two new works take up cycles in other ways. British composer James Humberstone draws from the parallel English experimental school, giving performers circular 'maps for action', while Australian Jane Stanley works with isorhythms to trace intricate mists and constellations. |
