Q. What exactly is 'tricking'?

A. Tricks are mainly martial arts based moves, but also incorporates elements from breakdancing and gymnastics. Some people refer tricking as 'Xtreme martial arts' as they are a new form of Xtreme Sports. Tricking combines elements from Martial Arts, Breakdancing and Gymnastics, creating "an aesthetic blend of flips, kicks, and twists" (quoted from TricksTutorials.com). Think of it as freestyle trick martial arts. Tricks aren't exactly used for self-defence, but rather as an art form.

Q. Can you kill someone by tricking?

A. No, as I mentioned earlier: Tricks aren't exactly used for self-defence, but rather as an art form. It's for performing / hobby / battles (like breakdance battles but with tricks) etc...not killing. Some tricks however have the potential to hurt someone pretty badly, but only if your opponent is stupid enough to stand there watching you perform a trick on them. In other words: tricking in fights  = stupid.

Q. Are you guys doing capoeira?

A. I get this question a lot. NO. It's true that tricking gets some of its moves from capoeria, but it also has elements of breakdance, wushu and gymnastics put together with some flair. If capoeira was NBA, then tricking should be seen as And1.

Q. Do I need to be flexible or become stronger to trick? What do I get out of tricking?

A. Flexiblity definitely helps, especially in the kicks department. Strength helps too, but both aren't essential. I started off with terrible flexibility and only average strength. A lot of trick don't require much from the two faculties, so it won't matter. As a matter of fact, tricking enhances your flexibility over time, as with your strength. It is a great sport; incredibly fun and a great social activity through the many people you will meet in the growing tricking community. You will learn some wicked moves, and stay fit at the same time. Regular trick battles will also keep your adrenaline pumping. Overall, tricking = the win!

Q. Where can I take tricking classes \  Where can I start?

A. There are no tricking classes in Australia as far as I'm concerned. I learnt all the tricks myself through watching video clips and practicing in my backyard. However, If you are interested in tricking, you are welcome to come to our weekly trick sessions and learn off us. Please register in the forums, introduce yourself, and the friendly community will tell you about upcoming sessions and events. Also, www.trickstutorials.com is a great resource for beginners and veterans alike. Q. What the hell does "Infinite Synthesis" mean?

A. Infinite Synthesis literally means unlimited creation. Why did I choose such a title? I have absolutely no idea...

Q. How often will this site get updated?

A. Whenever I get new footage or decide to add/revamp stuff.

Q. How often do new trick samplers get released?

A. Every time I get good footage form an outstanding trick session, or whenever I've collected enough good footage for a solo sampler.

Q. Do/did you attend any martial art classes?

A. No. All tricks self-learnt.

Q. How often do you trick?

A. If I have time, I would trick at least once a week. Each session lasting around 30 minutes to an hour. Sometimes, at special trick sessions (at the gym, with friends etc), I may trick for more than 4 hours with  little rest.

Q. Are you part of a tricks team?

A. Yes, I'm a proud member of HTU. Find out more about us at www.hightricks.com. If you are interested in tricks and would like to learn some new skills, feel free to contact us on the forums or through email.

Q. What's your favourite trick?

A. The 540. It was my first real trick I ever acquired, and I've been improving it ever since.

Q. What's your favourite Tricks team?

A. Too many to mention really. All tricksters inspire me, but I must admit the biggest motivators are my own team (HTU), Loopkicks, Team FS, Team FF, Xen Dynasty, Team E and Liquid 07.

Q. Can girls trick? Are there any well known female tricksters?

A. Yes for both! There are many chick tricksters in the tricking community, and it's growing every day. Mindy Kelly from the US is a great martial artist / trickster and her moves are wicked smooth. Likewise with Gemma Nguyen, Caitlin Dechelle, Sammy Smythe and many more. They are an inspiration to all tricksters.

Q. Do your crashes hurt? How often do you crash?

A. NO PAIN NO GAIN. To learn a new trick, there's a high probability that you will crash. The pain factor of a crash depends on the type of trick you screw up. Normally, they shouldn't hurt that much (unless you're a sissy/pansy/queer etc). But beware, crashes can cause serious injury, paralysis and even death (extremely rare though).

The first time I tried a backflip was back in mid-2003, I was spotted by TWO people and had a rope around my waste (for normal people, that would be very safe). But I still screwed up and landed on my neck. That was followed by another backflip crash in 2004, where I landed BADLY on my neck - this time WITHOUT a spotter. That was by far the most horrific crash I have ever experienced, and it was the vivid memory of that crash that made me fear the backflip for quite a long time.

So be careful, get a spotter when you trick, and yes, even when you do tricks that are seemingly harmless. Don't learn things the hard way. You'll never know what might happen...

But also remember, all tricksters crash! That's how they learn new tricks; through crashing and identifying their flaws. And by the words of Team Ryouko's Jeff Ong: "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger".

Q. Your spoofs are friggin ridiculous! What were you smoking?!

A. Haha! That's HTU humour for you. 100% Original. 100% Stupid.

Q. I can't get your video clips to work properly.

A. Firstly, never stream our videos directly from our server unless you are watching it on Youtube. Always save a video onto your computer before viewing to prevent lag and loading times. Videos are recommended to be viewed with the latest Windows Media Player. Also, if some of you experience downloaded videos getting cut off suddenly, we recommend using a download manager like Flashget or Download Accelerator.

Q. I am queer.

A. That's not a question and I can't help you.

Q. Your site sucks?

A. Well....SUCKED IN! :D
