As we know, spruiking, as an industry, is a major employer in Thailand. An advanced form of spruiking is Truck Spruiking. This form of spruiking involves pick-up trucks with massive loudspeakers in the back driving through the streets playing an audio loop. The main advantage being the mobility and the aural enslaught guaranteeing you reach many more unsuspecting victims.
In Patong, the two main users of Truck Spruiking are Muay Thai kickboxing and a bar/club called "Rock City". The Rock City truck spruiking accompanied a soundtrack consisting of ACDC and Metallica and thus, promised the heavy rock injection that we needed.
After arriving early to an empty club we were dismayed that they were playing Rock remixes to top-40 pop (the one abomination that comes to mind is the Christina Aguilera Genie in a Bottle). Despite this poor start and the fantastically shafting beer prices, we decided to stay on until the live band started.
The live band started promisingly and played a number of quality songs (Thunderstruck, Its My Life) but things soon went to shit when about 5 songs into their set, the lead guitarist decided he'd forget how to play, and started playing everything in the wrong key. The one redeeming feature was one of the cage girls who caught Saos attention:
Her hips were disjointed from the rest of her body and she was shaking them very enthusiastically and she still had a soul.
However, not even her gyrating hips could keep our attention from the guitarist fucking up classic rock songs and we soon left, disgusted at the pack of lies we had been sold.
