1. The FISH trip occurs in early
January when the small window of opportunity exists in the current HDCA cricket
season fixture.
2. Gary Silinzeids & Bryce
Phillips traditionally crack open the first beer of the trip sometime around
7:30am. Others can then join in at will.
3. At least one member of the FISH
group is the last patron to vacate the Hotel of choice on the Saturday Night.
4. Members should endeavor to
wear sandals on the Saturday Night.
5. The organizer of next the trip is
either the current loser of GOLF or winner of the NAFA or both. The
organizer sets the golf handicaps using the previous year’s results, current
form and intuition. They can be bribed.
6. The MOST
FISH TROPHY is awarded to the individual who catches the most ‘keeper’ fish.
Small throwbacks and non-palatable fish will only enter into calculations in the
event of a tie.
7. The GREATEST VARIETY OF FISH
TROPHY is awarded to the individual who catches the most number of different
species of fish, both keepers and throwbacks are legitimate fish in this
category. Edible molluscs such as octopus/squid may be included. Crustaceans
such as crabs cannot be included. Mammals such as dolphins, whales, dugongs and
seals will not be counted, and the catching of birds such as penguins, terns and
albatross is definitely not to be encouraged.
8. The BEST FISH TROPHY is
traditionally awarded by the skipper of the boat. Various factors including
length, weight, eating qualities, fighting ability and rarity of the fish are
all taken into account. The skipper cannot be bribed.
9. The NAFA (Not A Fisherman’s
Arse-hole) is awarded by mutual consent of the members. Various factors such as
low catch rate, entanglements, and just poor fishing ability and etiquette are
all taken into account. Being drunk is not an acceptable excuse, though in the
event of tie, the number of beers consumed and their relative alcoholic content
may be considered.
10. Urinating overboard is
acceptable provided it is down wind. Bowel motions must be restricted to an
approved toiletry area. (we don’t want a repeat of the 1992
trip)
11. ALL Trophies are perpetual
and are to be retained by the winner for 12 months. In that time it is the
winner’s responsibility to ensure that they are maintained and engraved.
12. Those members who fish, stay
over and play golf are given preference to others who are selective in what they
partake in.
13. Those members who are long
time supporters of the trip are given priority over ‘Johnny come
lately’s’.
14. The winner of golf
is the player who has the lowest score after deducting their handicap from their
net score. The loser of golf is player with the highest score after deducting
their handicap. If the loser has organized the previous year's trip, they are
exempt from organizing the forthcoming trip and that task falls to the person
with the next highest score.
