LET’S GET ACQUAINTED!!

Why you should talk to PSECO

PSECO has been building benchrest and other target rifles now for 39 years. In that time it has introduced many innovations into this country, innovations which are today taken for granted.

What rifle making company was responsible for the manufacture & introduction into Australia,

  • The first truly Benchrest grade stainless steel barrels imported from the U.S.A.?
1972
  •   The first SWITCH barrelled combination rifle?

  1973
  •   The first precision set of stainless steel straight line loading dies?

  1973
  •   The first reloading Arbor Press for straight line loading dies?

  1973
  •   The first custom made Powder Measure?

  1974
  •   Introduced the fibreglass benchrest stock (McMILLAN) to this country?

  1974
  •   Pioneered the practice of loading directly from the powder measure on the range without  a scale?
  1974

Question, "Who was responsible"? Answer, "PSECO"

These are little known historical facts, two decades and some years after the transformation of benchrest equipment from what would be seen today as good bunny busters to international class equipment.

Consistent quality, workmanship, innovation
and
competitive rifle accuracy since 1970

Who are you talking to?

John Giles took part in his first benchrest event at the 1971 National Championships held at Belmont Brisbane.
This began twenty years of total dedication to the sport as a competitor, the high point of which was his first 4 Gun National Championships win in 1975.
In the ensuing years up to 1983 he won a total of four 4 Gun National Championships and amassed points in the Australian Benchrest "Hall of Fame" at a rate unprecedented since its inception in 1978. Three of these 4 Guns were won with rifles built by Neville Madden, the founder of Precision Shooting Equipment Co. With some trepidation these rifles were sold when John took over the rifle making business in July 1981. He built another set of rifles utilizing barrels produced in the new MADDCO barrel manufacturing facility at Toowoomba, Queensland. This pair of rifles proved to be the most successful John had used winning another 4 Gun in 1983 and collecting further Hall of Fame points.

What should you build to be competitive?

After reading the above and the following pages, a successful and long standing relationship between PSECO, MADDCO and McMILLAN should be evident to the reader.
This combination has proved most successful for John Giles. Why not for you too?

PSECO TIPS on ACTIONS and BARRELS

ACTIONS. Prominent USA benchrest identity Fred Sinclair has been quoted, "The REMINGTON 700 action is ingrained in benchrest history." This is due to its basic sound design features which endeared it to the benchrest clan and their gunsmiths when it was introduced.

Fifteen years ago PSECO saw the need to advance the Remington actioned precision rifle beyond what it had been for the previous fifteen years of PSECO rifle making, a modified but still very standard factory produced action with its factory in-built inaccuracies, as exists with any mass produced actions (Sako, Ruger, Winchester etc.).

The PSECO experience is, if ten REMINGTON 700 actioned rifles were built, chances are 3 or 4 would perform to the very best standards, a further 3 or 4 not as well, but to the customers satisfaction, whilst one or two might be such that the customer would be continually struggling for the necessary results.

The object of truing actions? To make the best performers better, and the rest of a like nature.

A system for the precision accurizing or truing of all front locking REMINGTON actions was developed by PSECO, which eliminates receiver distortion caused by factory heat treatment. Then the re-cutting of the receiver threads & all other critical surfaces, together with the addition of a precise receiver fitting band to the bolt, results in a concentric bolt / receiver combination which challenges the actions made by many of today’s custom producers in terms of mechanical accuracy of bolt, receiver and barrel alignment.

Now to the question of action stiffness and increased bedding surface. The current sleeves offered are a variety of full length models which extend back under the tang, to any distance forward of the receiver face that best suits the project for which it is designed. Included are an integral machined dovetail to suit KELBLY / JEWELL scope rings and an integral recoil lug.

The big asset of the REMINGTON 700 is its versatility. Upon reading the information within this site you will note it can be constructed to a 6¾ pound walk around light hunting rifle, or to the max., an action weighing 10½ lbs. to accept 1½" dia. free-floating barrels for Experimental Class or "Fly Shoot" rifles.
For those who want equipment that is all custom produced, with custom action features, aesthetics and desirability, various rifles utilizing the best customs benchrest actions from the USA are found here. If the action you prefer isn't listed, please ask.

BARRELS. When they are available, MADDCO Stainless Steel benchrest barrels are recommended and stocked by PSECO. It is felt these barrels are amongst the best available in the world, ranking with SHILEN, HART and LILJA.  LILJA barrels are imported for those customers who either desire a barrel "like the Yanks use", or for a calibre, twist or profile, many of which are unavailable from MADDCO.

WHILST RECOMMENDATIONS MAY BE OFFERED BY PSECO,
THE FINAL CHOICE OF COMPONENTRY BELONGS TO YOU, THE CUSTOMER.

PSECO, where Rifle ACCURACY RULES

Where the customer has the highest expectation of accuracy for the intended centerfire rifle project, only one of the REMINGTON front locking series actions or a custom benchrest action from the leaders in the field will be used.

PSECO is happy to re-barrel or restock your Sako, Ruger, Winchester etc., but the customer will be responsible for such decisions with the above information in mind.
