In Singapore I am staying on Beach Road. Most days I walk though Bugis Junction to get something to eat. There is a mall known as Parco which has a courtyard. Each time I walk through, this fountain grabs me. I have to stop and watch. Spurts of water come from opposite sides, meet in the middle and splash into new shapes. The best fun is to watch the kids. Curious at first, they usually approach cautiously. Where is that water coming from? Oh, now it comes from over there. What if I put my hand over it, can I stop it? In the day time somehow the kids usually stay dry. For some reason at night time they are drawn right into the fountain and have a ball. It is obvious that they have not planned to play with this fountain. They have not dressed for it. Whatever Mum and Dad might think it is not long before the kids are completely wet and what can Mum and Dad do? This is Singapore, the temperature is hot and what a great way to cool off. I have never seen this fountain mentioned in any tourist brochures but to my mind it is one of the fun FREE things to see in Singapore. copyright © John Shield 2003 - 2004 |
