Thai festivals
The Loy Kratong festival is celebrated each year in November. Kratongs are launched into the water to thank 'Mother Water' for the use of the water and to ask forgiveness for any pollution caused to it.

Aom launches a regular floating kratong with candles and incense into the pond on the Rajabaht University campus, Mahasarakham.

Feun and Sarah launch a balloon on the shore of the pond where many floating kratongs can be seen.

Don't rain on my parade. I thought the rainy season had ended but umbrellas were the order of the day at the Bahn Nong Goong District Loy Kratong parade.

Right column from top:

As I returned from dinner one evening, I saw this group of students working on a large kratong. The following morning when I went out for breakfast, they were still there.

The white material used here comes from the trunk of banana trees; the green from banana leaves and the pink from orchid petals.

The darker red comes from rose petals.

The finished kratong at the festival. Many students worked for many hours to create this tribute to Mother Water.

Huge crowds turned out to watch the procession at Bahn Nong Goong. Well...there were actually more people in the procession.
