
'Spyware' is defined as software that runs in the background and gathers user information without the users knowledge. Its usually used for advertising purposes and most of it comes from downloaded freeware programs and advertising sites. Once its installed, they monitor user activity and send information to the creator.
Spyware is known to:
--steal passwords
--monitor websites you visit
--Enable endless 'popups' that advertise a product
--Hijack Internet explorer settings, including your homepage
--Add search toolbars and other useless programs to your system.
--Slow your computer down dramatically with all the programs running in the background, using all the systems Cpu power.
--Known to multiply, you start off with two programs and within one week, you have twenty running especially if you have a broadband high speed connection.
