Harry Kontos is a Senior User Interface (Ui) Designer, with experience in UX and Design Anthropology.

He currently leads User Interface Design at Esri Australia. Previously, Harry has led production UI design for Whispir Pty Ltd and Interactive Pty Ltd, (Australia’s largest privately owned IT company), and UX-UI for the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) and CSIRO, creating interactive prototypes, visuals, production user interfaces and future concepts for big data visualisation in apps, mobile web and web.

Harry was on the panel of Australia's Digital Transformation Agency - User Experience Working Group (DTA UXWG) and is Co-organiser of the Melbourne Professional Design Anthropology Meetup group (MPDA). In 2016 and 2017, Harry led the industry side of two collaborative innovation projects with Swinburne's Design Factory Melbourne.

Harry's strengths include effectively communicating in speech, text and image, and the ability to ask the right questions. He engages with business clients, analysts and developers to make complexity understandable and enjoyable. He does this with a pragmatic approach combining observation, empathy and best practice experience. Harry has solid hands-on experience in modern UI design, including visual and interaction design, with strong prototyping skills and UX design. He is passionate about design thinking and non-digital design. Harry is known for his ability to think beyond immediate constraints to craft compelling, aesthetically refined stories that win users and awards.

Harry attained his Master’s Degree in Design (Design Anthropology) from Swinburne University in 2013, with High Distinctions. Design Anthropology represents the synthesis of academic anthropology with the professional practice of design. It explores how design helps to define what it means to be human, then translates this understanding into tangible experiences.

Harry's design-related interests span several creative fields including digital design for web and mobile platforms, online and social presence, graphic art, architecture and industrial design, 'bio-design', critical design, art history and aesthetic theory. Harry is passionate about emerging internet and mobile innovation, science, psychology, and related design movements, and seeks ways to apply them in his work.
