COME & JOIN US
February - Our first meeting for 2012 will be on Tuesday 28th February at Mayfield Diggers in Hanbury Street. This is a social night so we will meet about 6pm by the stairs just past the sign in area. They do a nice meal at the In-club Cafe, we can eat there first then move on to another area and have a chat.
March - Our guest speaker at the March meeting will be Claire Jennings, Claire is an Epilepsy Educator from Epilepsy Action Australia and she will be doing an overview of epilepsy. This meeting is for everyone... have you had a few questions over the Christmas break and not sure where to turn for the answer, come along and ask Claire. This meeting will also give people new to epilepsy the opportunity to learn and gain knowledge, I'm sure you also have many questions.
April - April is our safety month, Peter Rumball will be our guest speaker and he will be talking about fist aid. Peter is an Intensive Care Paramedic with the ambulance service so what better person to have at our meeting. Come along and hear what Peter has to say, I'm sure you will go away with some 'stay safe' tips.
May - Come along and find out what tip you can get to help improve your memory at our mini memory workshop with Claire Jennings from Epilepsy Action Australia. Short term memory loss is something a lot of people with epilepsy struggle with, this meeting might help by giving you some strategies to cope with it.
June - Guest speaker Tim Cush from Doc's MegaSave Chemist, Marketown will be talking about health topics, medications and answering questions. Find out what vitamins may benefit you and what may not. Pharmacists have a wealth of information and knowledge, so come along a see what Tim has to say.
July - Tenpin Bowling at Mayfield SuperStrike 318 Maitland Rd, Mayfield. Lanes are booked for 7:30pm. If you would like to join us for something to eat beforehand we will be there from 6:15pm on.

The colour purple and it's history.
Why the colour purple for epilepsy? This started when I found a link via Epilepsy Action Australia's facebook site. This link brought me to a young girl called Cassidy Megan from Canada. Cassidy was nine years old when she started to promote Purple Day; she found it was a way she could talk about her epilepsy to others. Cassidy is trying to make Purple Day international by promoting the colour purple or lavender as this is the international colour for epilepsy. If you go to www.purpleday.org you can read all about it, there are many more links from this site you may find interesting. We are hoping by promoting purple so people will recognize it and connect it with epilepsy. We will use the colour purple every time we do an awareness stand, hoping the community will begin to link purple & epilepsy and ask questions.
