A Message from Epilepsy Action Australia

April 2012

Thank you to everyone for your amazing Purple Day support! International Purple Day (26 March) is growing bigger year by year, and in Australia this year, Newcastle lead the charge to turn all things purple! Your efforts were inspirational in terms of the funds you raised and the incredible number of businesses you engaged. Not only have you helped raise funds for Epilepsy Action Australia to provide epilepsy education and support services across Australia, but you have also played a pivotal role in helping raise much needed epilepsy awareness in Australia.

In terms of overall funds raised for Epilepsy Action Australia, we have already raised more than $60,000, with funds still coming in from various community events. We are directing our funds to education programs which is in keeping with the true spirit of this global awareness day. On this note, we have some exciting new education projects to launch and I look forward to telling you about these very soon!

One new initiative we have already launched is a video training program for GPs. So if you think it would be useful for your GP, let him or her know about it! It can be accessed via our website.

We hope some of you are planning to attend the Point Wolstoncroft Camp at the end of May. It should be another great experience for families.

As you know, Epilepsy Action Australia is the only national provider of specialist epilepsy services in the community for people with epilepsy and other seizure disorders, their care takers, families and the broader community. We are committed to delivering services and support to all people who need them in Australia, and my beautiful hometown of Newcastle remains high on the priority list! With support from you, a tremendous support group and advocates for epilepsy awareness, we will go from strength to strength in the Hunter.

Once again, thank you so much for getting behind Purple Day 2012 and supporting our vision of helping Australians live confidently, despite seizures.

Warm regards,

Carol Ireland (CEO)
