This problem can be caused by a bug in the Vortex 2 Windows 9x 4.06.2040 reference drivers. Download the Windows 9x 4.06.2041 or later reference driver to fix this problem

This problem can be caused by a bug in the Vortex 2 Windows 9x 4.06.2040 reference drivers, download the Windows 9x 4.06.2048 or later reference driver to fix this problem

Computer locks up when dos drivers are loaded

If you use Norton Anti Virus make sure it is loaded before the sound card drivers in your autoexec.bat file.
Move the LH AU30DOS.COM line to the bottom of the autoexec.bat file.

Crackle in some MIDI playback

Download the Windows 9x 4.06.2035 or later reference driver to fix this problem

Game or program crashes or the music/sound effects doesn't work correctly

Make sure you are using the latest drivers available for the sound card.
If the sound card drivers aren't up to date try the Vortex 2 reference drivers.
Make sure you are using the the latest version of the game or program.
Check the technical support section of the company the makes the game or program in case they know of a solution.
Try disabling the DirectSound Hardware Acceleration

Recording volume is low and has static

Download the Windows 9x 4.06.2035 or later reference driver to fix the low recording volume.
Recording in 8 bit will yield in some static because of the resampling down to 8 bit.  Use 16 bit for recording until this it fixed. The 8 bit recording problems will be fixed in a future reference drivers.

Screech or static when playing games with Aureal A3D support for along time on some systems

Download the Windows 9x 4.06.2035 or later reference driver to fix this problem

Sound Blaster Pro emulation installation lock up

If you are using the Vortex 2 Windows 9x 4.06.2048 reference drivers follow these instructions:
Go to Add/Remove in the control panel and remove the sound card drivers, the uninstall entry will be called Aureal Vortex AU8830.
You might need to boot to safe mode to uninstall the sound card drivers
Go to the directory where you extracted the sound card drivers
Open Au30mmed.inf
Go to the [AspenOverides.Addreg] section
remove the ; infront of HKR,Config,DisableSBFMIRQLevel,1,1
Save the file
Reboot and install the sound drivers

Problems with DirectSound and DirectSound3D in some games

The pre-release Vortex 2 Windows 9x 4.06.2030/2031 reference drivers have problems with DirectSound and DirectSound3D in some games. Download the Windows 9x 4.06.2035 or later reference driver to fix these problems

Problems with VIA chipset motherboards

Make sure USB is enabled in your system BIOS
Try the latest drivers and patches for the VIA chipset at VIA Technologies
Check if a BIOS update is available for your motherboardI

Windows NT4

Sound problems with Windows NT4 drivers on multi-processor systems

Download the Windows NT4 2.06.01 beta or later reference drivers to fix this problem

Windows NT4 drivers will not install

Vortex 2 Windows NT4 reference drivers before version 2.04.06 and sound card drivers based on them don't uninstall some parts of the drivers which stops new drivers installing. Instructions to completely remove the older Windows NT4 drivers are available here

Windows 2000 and XP

Sound cuts off in Windows 2000/XP

If you are experiencing sound cuts off or other sound problems in Windows 2000/XP and your motherboard uses an AMD of VIA chipset then try using the Aureal Vortex 2 Sound Cutoff Fix at Aureal and Quantex Help Site

No Aureal control panel with default Vortex 2 WDM drivers in Windows 2000/XP
For Windows 2000 try using the Vortex 2 Windows 2000 beta reference drivers
For Windows XP try using the control panel at Aureal and Quantex Help Site 

No SP/DIF support with default Vortex 2 WDM drivers in Windows 2000/XP
Try using the control panel at Aureal and Quantex Help Site

No 4 speaker support with default Vortex 2 WDM drivers in Windows XP
Try using the control panel at Aureal and Quantex Help Site
Or:
Download AC97 Mixer at Aureal and Quantex Help Site
Unpack file and run AC97 Mixer
Choose Options menu and Model Specific
Change 2/4 mode from 4 channels > 4 speakers to 2 channels > 4 speakers
But the change has to be made after every reboot of Windows XP!
(Solution found by Pavel Voronov)

Low volume with the default Vortex 2 WDM drivers in Windows 2000/XP
Open the Voume Control, open the Options menu, select Properties, select Other, select AC97 Controls, choose OK and change volume of Front/Rear to maximum (If using 2 speakers or headphones) or middle (If using 4 speakers).

Aureal A3D demos won't work in Windows 2000/XP
Only the Aureal A3D 3.0 demos work under Windows 2000 and XP, earlier version of the Aureal A3D demos won't work.

Diamond Monster Sound MX300

Audio utilities can't be installed off the MX300 driver CD after installing the 1.01/2 drivers

Uninstall the Diamond Monster Sound 1.01/2 drivers.
Install the Diamond Monster Sound 1.0 drivers and audio utlities from the CD.
Then install the Diamond Monster Sound 1.01/2 drivers

Diamond Monster Sound MX300 installer takes over audio file types without asking first
Midisoft Media Works 98 and Wave Editor can't be uninstalled without uninstalling the MX300 drivers

Other Diamond Monster Sound cards had similar problems, they were never fixed

Sound card sometimes isn't detected by BIOS after a reboot

Check if a BIOS update is available for your motherboard.
Try changing PNP OS Installed to No in the PnP/PCI Configuration section of your system BIOS.
Try removing the sound card from system and putting it back in.
I had this problem myself and it looks like its motherboard problem, when I upgraded to a new motherboard the problem disappeared.

Windows 9x doesn't recognise Diamond Monster Sound MX300 drivers on some systems

Copy the Win9x directory from the CD to the hard disk.
Right click on Au30mult.inf, choose properties and clear the Read-only check
Open Au30mult.inf
Find the [AurealSemiconductor] section
Remove the ; infront of %PCI\VEN_12EB&DEV_0002.DeviceDesc%=ASPEN_PARENT_DEVICE, PCI\VEN_12EB&DEV_0002
Save the file and install the drivers.

Zoran SoftDVD player only works with display drivers which support Macrovision copy protection

Video cards with TV-Outputs are required to support Macrovision copy protection for the Zoran software DVD player to work. Try the latest video drivers and the latest reference drivers for your video card.
