A 5" Gauge Shay Locomotive

This Locomotive was built in Sydney, Australia by the late Bob Sanderson. Actual building comenced in Augest 1978 and finished May 1983. After Bob's death, the locomotive was acquired and rebuilt by Geoff Murray.

The Loco is based on the Wolgan Valley Railway 70 Ton Shay No 2 which entered service in 1907, and a three cylinder engine scaled from later 90 Ton Shay No 4 which entered service in 1910.

The engine is conventional with Stephenson link motion and flat valves, which are set Swindon fashion with negative lead in full gear.

Three cylinders 1.5" x 1.85" . Locomotive Weight 220kg. Adhesive Weight 320kg.

Scale 1.5 inch to one foot. 5 inch gauge.

Heating surface 1063 sq inches. Fuel is Coal. Super Heated. Working Presure 100 psi . Gear Ratio 12 : 22.Copper Boiler is flat sided, round topped 6.5" diameter with tapered barrel.
