Reversing triangle at Dean

Dean reversing triangle, looking back along the triangle from the remains of the buffer stop. The formation is still in good condition with ash and clinker remaining on the surface.

The triangle was mainly used by engines returning to Newnes. They would require turning after delivering their load to the siding for transhipment to Newnes Junction along easier grades. Often engines would doublehead to this stage from Newnes, one returning while the other continued along 1 in 50 grades to the Junction.
