David Smerdon
has become Australia's fourth Grandmaster
(and Queensland's first)

Popular Queenslander and Logan breed David Smerdon finally got his FIDE rating over the 2500 mark at the NSW Open on the 7th of June 2009 to gain the coveted Grandmaster title. David Smerdon won the event with 6.5/7. He had previously earned four Grandmaster norms at the Australian Championships in Brisbane, Thai Open in Bangkok, Pardubice Open and Queenstown Open. Well done David!
