Uriah Allender was a convict from Kent, he arrived per "Calcutta" at Sorentto, Victoria where an unsucessful attempt was made to start a settlement. He arived in Tasmania wiht the first ships to settle Hobart in 1804.
In a memorial to the Lieutenant-Governor of 22 May, 1826, he wrote:
"That His Excellencys Memorialist came to this Colony in the first fleet in eighteen hundred and four, received his pardon in eighteen hundred and five, from his Excellency Govr King, at the recommendation of Lieut Govr Collins, for going in an open boat with Despatches from Port Philip to Port Jackson.
That Memorialist received a Grant of Land of thrity acres which Memorialist now resides on at Kangaroo Point, the oldest upon that ferry, and has cultivated every acre there that is eligible, on the farm.
That Memorialist begs to state to His Excellency that he has a wife and a large helpless young family of children dependent on Memorialists labour.
That Memeorialist has a stock of eighty head of horned cattle ninety ewes and one breeding mare, which stock Memorialist is obliged to put out.
That Memorialist prays his Excellency will consider Memorialist long faithfull and honest services in this Island upwards of twenty years, and and old man of wars man wounded twice, and eighteen years on Board a King's ship either fighting or trying to fall in with some has often been engaged and fought the Battles of his country."
The Lieutenant-Governor, in June, authorised the grant of a further 30 acres of land to Allender.
