Elizabeth Ann Challenger

When Elizabeth was born her father was less than 15 years old.


Thomas James Challenger

Joined the Tasmanian Police Force in 1916, he had previously been engaged in the fishing industry. After being stationed in various parts of Southern Tasmania and highly distinguishing himself in the course of his duty, he was awarded the King's Medal, 26/10/1926 the highest civilian award a policemen can acheive. He was also awarded the Imperial Service Medal. He became Sergeant Challanger in 1932. Tom Challenger retired from the police force in 1945 and was appointed the Inspector of sea fisheries. In 1972 the 70 foot patrol and reseach vessel "Challenger" was launched in Launceston.
