He was young then, and continued to rise in the King`s service.
His castle domicile was Wark Castle, built by the Normans, on the Scottish border. He had been captured by the French and held for ransom. As he was a close friend of King Edward III, it was paid and he was released. During his captivity his wife held Castle Wark, and was besieged by the Scots, until the King came to the rescue. He died after being injured at a joust held by the King.
