HISTORY
Metro-Poll was established in November, 1997 by two former employees of the Australian Electoral Commission, Ivor & Maree Jones, a husband and wife team, who first met when both were working in the AEC's Parramatta, New South Wales office.
Ivor was the manager of the office and the Divisional Returning Officer for Parramatta.
Over a period exceeding 25 years in the AEC, Ivor served in a number of positions including those of Project Officer, Area Manager and Assistant Director (Field Operations) in New South Wales.
As a Divisional Returning Officer, Ivor was closely involved in a number of historic electoral events. He was the Divisional Returning Officer for Werriwa at the time of "The Dismissal" of Australian Prime Minister and Member for Werriwa, Mr. E. G.(Gough) Whitlam in 1975. He was also the Returning Officer for the Werriwa By-Election held in 1977 following Mr. Whitlam's resignation from the Australian Parliament.
Ivor was a Returning Officer for the "National Song Poll" which changed Australia's National Anthem from "God Save The Queen" to "Advance Australia Fair"
He oversaw the operation of a polling booth for expatriate South Africans in Australia voting in that country's first multi-racial election which saw Mr Nelson Mandela elected as President of South Africa
