George PERRING (i)

Born About 1805. Christened, 3 Oct 1805 in Harberton, Devon, UK. Died 1886 in Tamworth, NSW, Australia.

He married Jane Burgess SAUNDERS, 8 Dec 1831 in Harberton, Devon, UK. Daughter of George Saunders and Ann Jones. d. 1856 in Port Stevens, NSW, Australia.

George (i)(a) a Bachelor and Jane a Spinster.

Witnesses to marriage - John PERRING (ii) and Susanna FINCH.

They had the following children:

 

Contracted with 19 other local Devon shepherds, to the Australian Agricultural Company, to migrate to Australia and work on the company properties, first at Gloucester then onto Goonoo Goonoo.

Left for Australia about 1842.

Sailed from Plymouth on the H.M.S. London with wife Jane , one son John (i)(a) and two daughters, Elizabeth (i)(a)  and Mary Jane (i)(a). John (i)(a) was 9 years of age, Mary Jane (i)(a) was 3 years, Elizabeth (i)(a) was 8 months.

H.M.S. London left England on the 18th December 1841, arriving Port Stephens 14th March 1842.

George (i) was supplied accommodation and a salary of £25.0.0 per year as part of his contract.

The publication 'Pure Merinos And Others: The "Shipping Lists" of The Australian Agricultural Company' by P A Pemberton there are a few pages devoted to 'The Emigration Scheme" . Among the passengers listed there is a mention of a George Perring, a shepherd with a wife, son and two daughters arriving on the London in 1842.

He died in Tamworth, on the New England tablelands aged 81 in 1886.

New Beginnings

What follows are the records that have been found to date. Some of the information has been validated and the remainder is well, let us say relevant but not yet substantiated. There is yet a lot of work left in piecing who belongs to whom and where. If interested, stay tuned!  

Nundle and Tamworth are both in close proximity to each other situated on the New England tablelands of New South Wales.

There is a listing in the Nundle Cemetery Book: George Burgess Perring (i)(a) died 19/10/1911 aged 67 years.  There are six other Perring's listed in the Nundle book and five in the Tamworth Pioneer cemetery book: 

Sarah Perring (i)(a) married John Wilson, 8 April 1869 in St. Paul's Church of England, Tamworth, NSW, Australia. John Wilson b. 10 July 1845 in Merton (Denman), NSW, Australia. Son of Frederick Wilson and Lucy Wyborn. John Wilson d. 22 November 1920 in Tingha, NSW, Australia. Buried 23 November in Tingha Cemetery, NSW, Australia. Religion: Salvation Army.  Occupation: carrier and blacksmith. John Wilson died without a will, but records from the deceased estate file state that his house was a substantial 6 room house on Agate Street, Tingha. The address today is 11 Agate Street, Tingha. He also owned a block of land at the village of Howell, west of Tingha. All that remains of the village of Howell are a few mullock heaps.

Anna Maria Wilson. b. 1873 in Goonoo Goonoo near Tamworth, NSW, Australia. d. in Goonoo Goonoo near Tamworth, NSW, Australia. Religion: Salvation Army.  Occupation: Child.

James William Wilson. b. 28 April 1875.

Walter Henry Wilson. b. 23 September 1876.

Robert Wilson. b. 30 November 1878 in Tamworth, NSW, Australia. Baptised in St. Paul's Church of England, Tamworth, NSW, Australia. d. 8 February 1943 in Tingha, NSW, Australia. Buried 8 February 1943 in Tingha Cemetery, NSW, Australia. Religion: Methodist. Occupation: Miner. Headstone date of death is 8th July 1943.

Robert Wilson married Jane Lute, 1916 in Tingha, NSW, Australia. Jane Lute. b.1879 in Inverell, NSW, Australia. Daughter of John Lute and Mary Dinah Budden. Jane Lute. d. 20 August 1944 in Tingha, NSW, Australia. Buried 21 August 1944 in Tingha Cemetery, NSW, Australia. Religion: Methodist.

Ambrose Wilson. b. 23 March 1882 in Tamworth, NSW, Australia. Baptised in St. Paul's Church of England, Tamworth, NSW, Australia. d. 25 May 1885 in Tingha, NSW, Australia. Buried 26 May 1885 in Tingha Cemetery, NSW, Australia. Religion: Salvation Army. Occupation: Child.

Reginald Wilson. b. 1884.

Maud Mina Wilson. b. 1888.
