How to Use this Site
This site uses the Webeq Math Viewer applet to render
the interactive mathematical expressions. To use this site effectively
we recommend.
- Enable Java in your browser. This site will not operate without
it.
- Use Internet Explorer as your browser, preferably version 5
or higher. The applets are optimized for use with Internet Explorer
5. In addition there are two bugs involved with the use of Netscape
Navigator. One is the well known bug that in some versions of
Navigator resizing windows is not done correctly. This bug can
be fixed by reloading the page. The second and more serious bug
involves an interaction between the Webeq applet and Navigator
when using pop-up windows. This bug causes Netscape Navigator
to crash. A Navigator friendly version of this site is in the
pipeline.
- Install the Webeq Math Viewer applet as a plug in. The option
to do this will be given to you automatically when you go to the
home page. This will dramatically speed up the operation of this
site.
Interactive Equations
Interactivity on this site is represented by a pale
blue background. Wherever you see this background there is something
within the blue area that is clickable. This may be a pop-up window
or it may be an interactive equation. (Equations which are not interactive
are coloured white). For interactive equations the actual active
area will be indicated by a highlighted background when you roll
the mouse over the area.
Here is a simple example.

Dynamic Graphs
This website uses and supports the following dynamic graphing technologies.
- Winplot
- A freeware PC graphing program. It can be obtained from Peanut
Software.
- Geometers Sketchpad
- A dynamic geometry package. The full version and a demo version
can be obtained from Key
Curriculum Press.
- Java Applets
- The LiveGraphics3D
and Java
Sketchpad applets. These require no installation.
