Layers and Styles
Previous Top Next

The MapInfo map may contain multiple Layers which can be converted at the same time.

The map will be converted to a KML Document folder containing a seperate folder for each visible layer in the map. For each map layer folder a KML object will be created for each Mapinfo object. If the mapinfo object consists more than one section (polylines) or several polygons (Regions) it is merged into one KML object. Regions with holes or cutouts are converted as if they have overlayed polygons and not cutouts.

Mapinfo2Google doesn't convert all types of MapInfo layers or styles. Only NORMAL MapInfo vector layers are converted and RASTER layers, COSMETIC layers, THEMATIC layers are ignored. Objects in a QUERY layer can be converted but will not be able to use the LABEL feature for Object Names. For custom names in QUERY layers save them as permanent (BASE) tables and add them to the map.

Mapinfo object Styles are basically ignored at this time and default styles are outlines for polygons and no icons and Red text for text objects and the rest use the defaults in Google Earth. Styles can always be edited in Google Earth for both individual objects or shared layer styles for all objects in a folder.
