BALL TURNING TOOL Pg4

Here is the finished tungsten carbide tipped tool, after grinding I lapped the tip with a diamond slip.

Here it is in action on the end of a piece stainless steel. I am running at 500RPM and it's cutting great. The tip is working perfectly fine at the full 3/16 inch diameter so I don't think I will need to reduce the tip cutting face. As I do not have flood coolant I will have to watch how hot I get the tool.

Here is the finished ball turner sporting a stainless steel handle and Aluminium ball knob. I experimented with the angle location of the handle and finally recon that this position suits me best. With cutting tool uppermost the handle is about 1 o'clock.

With cutting tool at right most position the handle is at about 4 o'clock.

Complete tool without the boring bar block. I will eventually make a support block specifically for the ball turner so I don't have to swap the boring bar block. This whole tool has been made on a lathe and drilling machine, no milling necessary, so it's a really easy device to make. Oh a file also needed to file the flats where the grub screws contact the round surfaces.
