Welcome to the web page of
the Kenmore East Neighbourhood Watch Group.
Neighbourhood Watch is a 'Community
Policing' program, supported by the Queensland
Police Service. We operate as a group of approximately 500 homes,
divided into several zones, under the support of a 'Zone
Coordinator'. Each zone supports approx. 10 blocks, each comprising
about 10 homes. Each block is supported by a 'Block
Coordinator'. Residents are educated and encouraged to be alert for
any suspicious or criminal activity in the area, and to report information
to the block or zone coordinator, or to the police. Full details of
the purpose and structure of Neighbourhood Watch, can be found at the Queensland Police
Service, Community Policing page.
The group has formed an association with the Kenmore
South State School by way of
sponsoring and presenting a "Community Award Shield" which is
awarded annually, to the year seven student who displays outstanding
community spirit and commitment to helping others. The area
coordinator, Maria Edmonds unveiled the shield at the 2005 Annual general
Meeting.
One of the successes of Kenmore
East Neighbourhood Watch has been the 'Crime Net' e-mail list, managed by
one of our residents, John Le Mare. When any criminal activity or
intelligence (concerning our area) is reported to Police, Sergeant Murray Watson passes the information to John,
who then distributes the information to residents, via e-mail. The
information does not identify specific addresses (to maintain privacy)
however the knowledge it provides allows residents to be informed, and take
appropriate precautions to prevent themselves becoming victims of
crime. If any resident would like to receive these e-mails, they can
contact John at: aladdins@magna.com.au.
A compilation of comfits, Police reports and Plan-safe alerts can be found
at 'News, Intelligence
& Comfits'.
Our group is operated by a group of dedicated volunteers, supported by our Police Liaison Officer. Our
group services the part of Kenmore, east
of Holdway Street
and Marshall Lane,
and west of Akuna Street.
To see if your home lies within our area of concern, you can check the map, provided for your information.
The success of our group has been largely
due to the large number of residents being actively involved over the
years. If any one would like to become more actively involved, they
would be made very welcome.
