Boston Hop Bitters

Not a lot is known about this Australian Hop bitters apart from the fact that they have been found in various parts of NSW. A label for these bottles has never been seen/found. Maybe these bottles never had a label?

A few different moulds were used when making these bottles, Some of the moulds used were slug plated old St Louis moulds, thus another valid point that the flag bitters were indeed made at the same glass works. There's a very early crude type of mould and a much more modern looking mould which produced a  better quality made bottle with more even sides. Most of the Reddish Amber Boston's are from this mould.

Like the NYHB bottles, these can also be found in a wide variety of striking colors, Each one unique in there own way/ each from a unique batch of melted down recycled glass.

Probably considered the "Holy Grail" amongst  bottle collectors in Australia, (without mentioning the International interest) is the Cobalt Blue Boston Hop bitters.

Cobalt Blue Boston Hop Bitters

Two of these used to be around but tragically one was lost in a house fire many yrs ago. The lost example was a rich deep dark Cobalt Blue, The color has been explained to me by comparing castor oil bottle colors. Seemingly different than the one that still exists in a large Victorian collection, It makes me think there must have been more than one batch of these bottles poured at the glassworks.

Location of where they were found, All in NSW:

1: Dived in Sydney Habour

2: Found under a sheet of tin in a small country NSW town
