Australian Fruit jars

Australian fruit jars are one of the most unique types of jars to be found in the world, with there wide mouths and chunky thick glass bodies. These jars can be found in 3 sizes, Hg, Qt, Pt sizes. In the extreme rare cases there is one jar from Mac Robertson which would be a gallon in size!!Of the rarest/desired fruit jars in Australia it would have to be the Model jar from Grace Bros who were located in Sydney. This jar depicts the hand holding a building and is found in the Qt and the recently found Hg size. To my knowledge there are 2 Qt and 1 Hg examples known to date.

These Australian made fruit and produce jars were predominately made at two places being the Melbourne Glass bottle works, Or the Vance and Ross bottle works. On some extreme cases there are Melbourne embossed jars which were made in America for the Aussie markets. Examples of this are The Mclean Bros & Rigg, and Rosenthal Aronson. Both of these jars are an extreme rarity and priced accordingly. Of the wide mouth 3", 4" lightning style closure jars most of these were made from the same mould but a slug type sleeve inserted in the mould changed a run from say Chicago's to Orchards. Aussie fruits in pint size do exist, but again are an extreme rarity. There are other fantastic Aussie jars to be found by collectors these include:

Federal, American, Canadian, Champion, Orchard, MFJ, Finney Isle, Queensland, Boston, Niagara, VR, Dingo, Chicago, Trademark lightning, Pomona, Century, Mildura, Columbia, Unicorn, J H Jones, Hicks, Commonwealth, Perfection, Triumph, ASR Co, CSR Co, CFJ, J Ross. AHS, Allen & Stark, Chambers Dunne, Frisco, Gows, Kangaroo, Mason Atlas to name a few. Below are three very hard to get jars for the fruit jar collector.
