'Woven
Realities' exhibition- August
2008 |

As
the title of this exhibition suggests, our world is an array of interwoven
realities. Global
communities are all unique, each having something rich to contribute. We
do not live in a vacuum, what happens to a part happens to the whole.
The
Micah Challenge campaign has as one of its aims, a desire to awaken in
Christians a passion for the poor that reflects God's own heart.
These
works are a reflection on the 8 Millennium Development Goals and highlight
such issues as climate change, child mortality and the inequality that
exists between rich and poor countries. 20% of sales from this
exhibition were donated to the Micah Challenge campaign.
The
Millennium Development Goals
In September 2000,
all 189 member states of the United Nations adopted the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs), committing their nations to a new global partnership to
reduce extreme poverty. These 8 goals each have clear targets and
indicators to measure the progress and success of these goals by 2015.
Goal 1- Eradicate
extreme poverty and hunger Goal 2
- Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3 - Promote
gender equality and empower women Goal 4 -
Reduce child mortality Goal 5 -
Improve maternal health Goal 6 - Combat
HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Goal 7 -
Ensure environmental sustainability Goal 8 -
Develop a global partnership for development.

‘A
Climate of Change’
exhibition
25
June- 8 July 09 |
The
climate is changing and hope is fading. Fading because we are not
seeing the national governments of our world be courageous enough
to make the hard decisions needed to halt dangerous climate
change. They’re not courageous enough to step out of the
political vote-scoring cycle and implement visionary, long-lasting
sustainable solutions.
This
changing climate also brings fading hope for the millions of poor
people who are being more adversely affected. Hope is fading that
the 8 Millennium Development Goals so inspiringly adopted at the
beginning of this century will ever be achieved by 2015, if at
all.
But
hope is present in the grassroots movements springing up
throughout the world, where people of all walks of life are saying
“enough is enough! We want a habitable planet for our children;
we want a just, equitable world in which to live”.
I
echo these sentiments and aim to bring that message out in these
works that reflect on the 8 Millennium Development Goals and the
effects of climate change on the poor.
(10%
of sold works were donated to either the Victorian Greens or
the Make Poverty History campaign)
