Welcome to evocARTive, the website of

Nell Potter

Here my three passions come together. My desire to create; my desire to be an advocate for justice and equality for all and and my desire to reflect the nature of God.

I was born to create; it fills me with life, inspiration and hope - hope that the images I create will impact on the life of the viewer and so inspire them to pursue justice, love kindness and walk humbly with their God.

(Micah 6:6-8).

Oil reserves will begin to decline as is anticipated soon, and so, the cost of this commodity, on which we're highly dependent, will increase.

We need to start planning now to reduce our reliance on motor vehicles and invest in more sustainable, affordable transport options like bicycles and safe bike paths.

This giant 5th birthday card was commissioned by

Micah Challenge  for it's annual Voices for Justice 2009 Conference that was held at Parliament House, Canberra - September 12-15.

The card was produced as part of a 5th Birthday Party Celebration to highlight progress towards reducing child mortality globally and the need to continue to act to reduce numbers of children who do not make it to their 5th birthday due to preventable causes.

  •  31 politicians turned up to the party

  • Mike Symon (Labor MP for my electorate) gave a description of the card on my behalf.

  • 95 politicians signed the card, from all parties, including a number of cabinet ministers.

  • 129 politicians were visited by the 270 Conference participants (from every state and territory aged 12-71).

  • About 16 politicians  spoke up in Parliament so far, with a motion passed in the Senate.

  • The card will now be presented to the Prime Minister.

I wanted to make the card look like a child's birthday card, like the ones I received when I was young. The number 5 shows how children here in Australia celebrate turning 5, with all the frills that parties usually entail.

The background shows children from poor regions of the world. I wanted to show them being kids, playing simple games and having fun as all kids want to do. To highlight child mortality and the number of children who die unnecessarily, I’ve left figures unpainted. Children who were once there, but are no longer.

I hope the contrast in lifestyles is evident, as is how unjust it is that millions of children are denied their rights to health, freedom, and longevity of life.

Nell with the Minister for the Arts, Heritage and the Environment - Mr. Peter Garrett,

holding the 'House of Partnership' painting, 2008.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was honoured to be asked by Micah Challenge to produce a work of art around the theme of 'Global Partnership' to feature in the their Create to Advocate exhibition in Parliament House, Canberra, 2008.
As I reflected on how I could best depict the Millennium Goal 8, the theme of 'home' came to mind.
Over 230 people from the Micah Challenge campaign recently gathered in our Nations  'house' in partnership with the poor - to advocate through word and image on their behalf.
Parliament House is an immensely important building. The decisions made there can have life changing repercussion the world over. My hope is that these decisions will be made wisely, respectfully and justly.
Politicians who were present at the opening of the Create to Advocate exhibition were invited to sign on the white part of the building in the painting, as a gesture of their willingness to work in partnership with the poor to eradicate extreme poverty. Subsequent to the opening, Micah Challenge was inundated with phone calls by politicians wanting to sign the painting, which is now crowded with signatures, including the Prime Minister's.
I hope this painting will act as a reminder to those politicians who signed it, that they can be a catalyst for change in the lives of the poor by seeking justice for all.
I would like to offer NGOs the opportunity to work in partnership with myself in spreading the message of the work that you do.
My desire is to develop paintings around themes that reflect your development, justice or environmental work - then hold an exhibition showcasing these paintings, offering a percentage of sales to your organisation.
Your requirement would be to promote the exhibition through your networks, supply your promotional  resources and volunteers to help at the opening if required.
To see an example of this arrangement click on the tab above.
Similarly to above, I offer NGOs the chance to sell a range of greeting cards that are specific to your organisational activities and purpose. I would design these hand painted cards and be paid a commission per card sold.
Your requirement would be to supply me with reference material and print the cards (quotes from printers can be supplied).
