As
a nautical officer I had some knowledge of the principles of steam engines and
boilers, diesel engines and turbines, but at school mr.
Vrolijk did not tell us what wheel had to be turned,
how many handles had to be pulled and what button -red or green- had to be
pushed to start the up and down movement of the pistons and keep them going and
to make the propeller shaft turning.
I
still don't know, but since I found – decades ago – a manual to handle a turbine in “The
Compass” a magazine of Vacuum Oil Company, I think I can give a hand to a
turbine engineer.
