Naomi Ota - www.naomiota.com

Born in Japan, Ota is an installation artist based in Melbourne. Her background in fibre / textile art gives her profound understandings in materials / processes and it contributes a unique cultural context to the discipline. Naomi's field also extends into performative installation and has been collaborating in dance, theatre and cross-artforms. Her works have been exhibited in various national and international exhibitions in Australia, Singapore, Belgium, France, UK and Japan including the solo installation Scent of whiteness at the Esplanade main concourse (Singapore 2008). Her works are included in public collections of NGV, Museum of Victoria, Art Bank, The Royal Blind Association in NSW and Kyoto Nishijin Textile Industrial Association.

Ota has been a long term collaborator of tony yap company - virtual temple and involved in successful national and international projects. Their most recent work Rasa Sayang has been nominated for 2011 Australia Dance Award in Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance.

Ota's installation for EnTrance, Yumi Umiumare's solo performance at Malthouse was nominated for a 2009 Green Room Award. As one of her recent projects Ota developed an installation performance Ocean White with Genta Iwamura (lighting designer of Sankaijuku), Tim Humphrey and Madeleine Flynn (musicians/composers), Soo Yeun You (choreographer/dancer) and Peter Eckersall (dramaturg) in 2010. She has also been collaborating with Vietnamese-Australian writer, Chi Vu for Banh Chung performance installation project in 2010 and 2011.
