Atanas Djonov is a Sydney based emerging media artist, born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 1972.

In 1994 he completed a video-production course at the College of Journalism and Mass Communication at Sofia University. In 1996 he moved to Sydney, Australia.

In 2002 he graduated with a Bachelor's degree with Honours Class I in Fine Arts (Time-Based Art) from the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW.

His art practice incorporates a variety of different forms such as video installation art, film, sound, animation, photography, drawing and sculpture.

The interaction between these media and various moving image genres such as experimental video, film essay and observational documentary enables him to create new meanings and question the affordances of each medium. This combination of juxtaposed forms is central to the development of his latest multi-channel interactive new media installation project Compass II.
