Ground Parrot found Malabar sewage treatment plant April 2006

| The
Ground Parrot is a grass-green long tailed parrot. It is very shy and feeds on the ground. They have rarely been recorded in the Sydney area, but the one in the photo was picked up injured at the Malabar Sewage treatment plant. It is now recovering at WIRES and will be released back into the wild. |

| Australian Distribution:
Down the East coast from Gympie to S. Vic - found only near the coast. In W.Aust it is found only in 2 parks and is critically endangered there. In Tas it is somewhat more common. |
