Cyberstone Mythology

This is a basic run down of the Mythology of my Cyberstone world. More information will be added to as times goes by, if there are areas you would like me to expand on let me know and I'll add that information as soon as I can.

General World Information

This section is sort of an accumulation of little bits of information that didn’t fit in anywhere else.
Basic communications over distances, is done with a normal phone, either land line based or mobile. Although Video-phones are slowly becoming more and more common. Richer areas might even have them as public phones. There is also the internet, which can be accessed via dial-up, cable or datalink connections.
Most of the food and drink used in the city is processed there and made from raw material shipped into the city from farming regions within the Outer Cities and surrounding areas. Much of the food and drink is more or less the same as we have today, although large serves of food are not common. Also some fast food outlets may not be found in given areas depending on who owns the company and who owns the companies in the area.
Marriage and children is a simple enough matter, if you both work for the same company. However people who marry outside of their own mega-corporation, may find that one or the other of the couple will soon be un-employed for some reason. It’s not legal, or illegal, it’s just the way things tend to happen. Custody of the child in the event the parents are unable to raise it goes to any number of orphanages run by the bigger corporations. These children or wards of the company are raised for any number of jobs, many of them security based.
Transport in and around the cities is done in a number of ways. While there is some limited “Public Transport”, it tends to be set up by a corporation to take people from an area where many of their workers live to an area where they work.
More commonly people use cars, trucks, etc. Most cars are small in nature. They are fueled with one of two things. Either Bio-diesel or Ethanol fuels if you have the money. Most factories also have forklifts or cranes as well although some of these are electric.
Resources, such as metals etc are not mined. In fact no one digs in the ground, more than a farmer might. All metals are either recycled or gathered from the surface. This is part of the reason for “buildover”, as well as the use of human remains to produce synthetic diamonds. Other natural resources which would be gathered from belowground in the real world are collected at the surface, or produced synthetically. Such as Bio-diesel for fuel etc. Plastics are largely recycled.
Rubbish within the city is never wasted, it is in fact a large industry which recovered the materials used in products to recycle them.

Time Line

-Y0 The prehistory of the world. While there are fables, fairy tales, and overblown legends of this time, nobody believes them or treats them with any credibility.
Y1-Y150 Governments controlled most of the population of the planet over these years.
Y150-Y200 Small levels of industry start to develop within the holdings of nobles. However the concept of employment to a company is becoming common place as well as working for the nobility.
Y201-Y300 Lower levels of nobility become irrelevant as corporations begin to develop independence. Many lower nobles own the corporations or work as their administrators.
Y309 For the first time a corporation (Drake products) plays an instrumental part of placing a new King on the throne of a country.
Y310-Y400 Several of the corporations now have branches in many countries, and have influences on the nobility and governments.
Y401-Y500 There are 15 large multinational corporations, which have begun to control most of the nobility one way or another.
Y610 Ubercorp formally buys so much of the lands held by one of the lesser kings that they now control his country and remove him from office.
Y679 Drake products and Wyrm Industries merge into one company and in the process now control several small countries and provinces
Y750 A small war breaks out between Sanvean Extrusions and the King of Banders, who controls the only country still governed by a Royal family.
Y752 The Sanvean/Banders war ends because the Banders royal guard simply can’t afford to fund the war effort.
Y1000 Elected or Heraldic titles are now just irrelevant prefixes to some people’s names.
Y1483 Two of the major companies merge to form the Biomed Conglomerate.
Y1500 Ultraforge invents and produces the first steam engines.
Y1700 Mainwing produce the first hot air balloons.
Y1872 Ubercorp and Balkin Enterprises are involved in a merger, which goes sour and a corporate war breaks out between the two.
Y1880 Ubercorp defeats Balkin Enterprises and takes over muck of the company, however Balkin sold some of its holdings to Drake Industries and Ultraforge just before the end.
Y1901 Cyris make the first electrical generator and light bulbs.
Y1924 Ultraforges develop a prosthetic arm which works via pull cables and straps.
Y1925 Ultraforges, buy out Sanvean Extrustions and change their name to Ultratech.
Y1931 Ultratech develop prosthetic legs, which although they work you still need one real leg to walk. They are little more than a peg leg with a hinge for the knee.
Y1985 The Biomed Conglomerate develops limited animal cloning technologies.
Y1991 The Biomed Conglomerate clones their first human cells.
Y2003 The Biomed Conglomerate develops simple cloned body parts, such as fingers, ears etc.
Y2005 Ultratech develop a prosthetic arm which works by reading nerve impulses from the brain via a small spinal implant, although it is received with a lackluster response.
Y2015 The Biomed Conglomerate develops more complex cloned body parts, such as hearts, lungs, and whole limbs. This almost removes the need for prosthetic limbs etc, although it takes up to 6 months to grow a new limb.
Y2034 Hypercomputers build the first AI, called Simon, nick-named Simple Simon by many however.
Y2040 Ubercorp launch the first man made satellite into orbit. It lasts 20 years transmitting a simple repeating radio signal before burning up on re-entry.
Y2042 Ubercorp launch their first communications relay satellite. Followed by one by Ultratech at the end of the same year.
Y2046 Ultratech launch the first animal into orbit. However the monkey dies during re-entry, 2 days latter.
Y2047 Drake Enterprises, make their first launch. It is a communication satellite, which can also handle video, and phone information. It also has launch detection/tracking equipment, but this is not used fully for several years.
Y2048 Ultratech launch the first human into orbit. This time the recovery goes according to plan.
Y2050 The Biomed Conglomerate develops the first bone density boosters.
Y2053 Most mega-corporations have satellites in orbit. Although they are all launched by the three biggest, Ubercorp, Ultratech and Drake.
Y2054 Ubertech launch 6 long-range probes over the next year to study the solar system. Probe 4 explodes just after launch.
Y2058 Ubercorp, Ultratech, and Drake each make regular manned launches into orbit, to repair, recover, or launch new satellites. As a general worldview, Ubercorp does it first but Drake does it best.
Y2065 A race between Ubercorp and Ultratech is won by Ultratech with a moon landing. However while a great deal of information is brought back from the mission. Most of it is kept classified for the next 30 odd years. Ultratech make no further attempt to land on the moon.
Y2066 Ubercorp announce they are putting their moon project on hold, due to budget problem. Promising to make a landing of importance before the end of the century.
Y2070 Drake Industries develop of bioware poison filter. It is several years ahead of its time and they do not reveal where they got the designs from.
Y2076 Drake builds the first manned orbital platform in high orbit. They call it “Gateway” station.
Y2077 Unknown to the other mega-corporations, Drake makes contact with a Shun-dar ship. They inform Drake Enterprises, about a temporal disturbance and offer assistance. From this point forward they trade in secret. Although the Shun-dar do make themselves known to the other corps around 2101. The general population does not currently know this, only the people who need to know within Drake Enterprises.
Y2079 Although a little late Ubercorp land on the moon and begin construction of a base. The base is also a mine. However they must use “Gateway” for a lot of their moon/orbit launches.
Y2080 Ubercorp discover many underground tunnel networks in the moon. This is what scared Ultratech away in 2065.
Y2083 Drake Industries land and build a colony on Geenist, as time progress’s this become their main starship construction site.
Y2086 The Asteroid belt become the site of new “mining” bases, first for Ubercorp, and then followed by Ultratech and Drake Industries.
Y2091 The Biomed Conglomerate develops faster cell growing technologies which reduces the waiting time for cloned body parts, although it still takes a couple of weeks to grow anything with bone matter in it. Ubercorp and Drake Enterprises start using large cargo ships, for moon/orbit work or between Geenist and Earthstone.
Y2094 Ultratech and Drake Enterprises, both launch and build extra mining bases in the asteroid belt. Drake also shifts is primary ship building works to Geenist.
Y2096 Ultratech begins using cargo ships as well. Currently they are about 20 cargo ships traveling around the inner solar system at any given time.
Y2097 Ubercorp, in a daring move launches a “sleeper” ship which they have built in secret at their moon base. It is launched toward Polestar. The trip will take 6 years. But as the first to arrive in the system, they can claim most of the planets in the name of their corporation, without having to worry about Drake, or Ultratech getting in the way.
Y2098 Drake Enterprises build a new base on Shakra a moon of Irushi.
Y2099 While AI is still a little simplistic, it is now used on almost all long range ships.
Y2100 Drake Enterprises begins building a new “cargo” ship called the Argo. Publicly it seems to be the same as most cargo ships. However it is have many secret new technologies on board.
Hypercomputers bring 3 new AI computers on line. They are the finest examples of the technology to date, and are called the Archangel series.
Y2101 Ultratech colonize Lamidis (ES7). Ultratech built a platform and toe it to and orbit between Zabor and Ion. This remains the outermost location in the system. This platform known as “Watchtower” detects the Shun-dar. The Shun-dar pretend to make first contact with the humans. Although this time they are very standoffish and guarded about their dealings with humans. They do make it know there are other space faring races, some of which are hostile.
When the information is made public Ultratech and Ubercorp arm their ships for the first time with simple missile systems. Drake ships have always been armed and don’t need the upgrades.
Y2102 Drake Industries launch the first Hyperdrive equipped starship, the Argo, which is completed in orbit around Geenist, and is ready to launch when its crew arrives.
Y2103 The Argo suffers a Hyperdrive fault and vanishes with all hands lost. Drake Industries colonizes a moon of Polestar 6, and Prime 4. Ultratech colonizes a moon of Prime 6 with it’s sleeper ship.
Y2104 Drake Industries colonizes a moon of Bernards Beta 6, and a second moon of Polestar 6.
Y2105 Ubercorp begins renting out space on board Watchtower station. Drake Industries colonizes Barnards Alpha 3.
Y2106 Rouge Station and Polestar Station comes on line for Drake Industries.
Y2107 The first datalink is developed by Ultratech. 4 months latter Hypercomputers release their version. Now!
