50th Anniversary Dinner

In 2001 / 2002 season Parramatta City Swim Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Of the functions held during the year, the highlight was definitely Anniversary dinner held at Parramatta Leagues Club on 18 October 2001.

Members from every era of the club’s history attended. Even a few past members of the Granville Swimming Club that existed from 1936 to 1951 were also in attendance.

The highlight of the night was the recollections from past and present members.

These included, Dave Ramsey (a member of the Granville Swimming Club in the 1940’s), Janice Gustard (Crosio) (Federal MP and a member in the 1950’s) and  Paul Garrard (Lord Major of Parramatta and past Club President) and Doug Smith (Club President).

During the night a trivia quiz on the club was conducted. This proved a great success as past members dredged up memories of the club’s history.
On display during the evening was a wide range of club memorabilia. A number of old members were seen searching on trophies and the club records for their names. Others took to finding and comparing race recording cards with friends and families.
Many photographs where taken of the night. Those showing members from the different decades, starting from the 1950's can be seen on this page.

Anyone interested in viewing photos taken on the night should contact Bruce Horlyck.

Much thanks must be given for those who brought raffle tickets. Over $350 was raised for CANTEEN.

This charity is very special to the club as one of our recent past Club Captains was fighting cancer at the time of the dinner. Unfortunately Emma lost here battle with the disease in May 2002.

Each family that attended the evening received a specially struck 50th Anniversary Medallion.

Many thanks must go to Parramatta City Council and Parramatta Leagues Club without whose help the dinner would not have been possible.
