- There is a range of assistive
technology available for people with Learning Disabilities.
Since Learning Disabilities will manifest in different ways,
and the effects will vary according on the type, extent and
characteristics of each Learning Disability and the experiences,
abilities and management strategies developed by each person,
it is important that a thorough and appropriate assessment of
the impact of the Learning Disability be undertaken in each
case. This will enable more informed decisions on the most appropriate
use of Assistive Technology for each individual case.

ACROD - National industry association for disability
services - ACROD is the National Industry Association for Disability
Services with a membership of more than 550 organisations Australia
wide which are responsible for operating several thousand services
to people with disabilities and their families. The Commonwealth
Government recognises ACROD as the peak body for the disability
industry and provides a grant to assist in the operation of
the National Secretariat.

- Ménière's
disease is an unseen debilitating condition of the inner ear
that can radically change the well-being and lifestyle of those
diagnosed. An excess of fluid in the balance and hearing organs
of the inner ear can disturb both the balance and hearing mechanisms
of the ear. Classic symptoms include vertigo, (nausea and/or
vomiting), hearing loss, tinnitus and sometimes a feeling of
pressure or fullness.
The Disability Information &
Resource Centre South Australia - The
Disability Information & Resource Centre is an Incorporated
body funded by the State Government. The Management Committee
includes people with disabilities and representatives of organisations
providing services to people with disabilities. DIRC's role
is to "point people in the right direction" - to end
the confusion concerning where to go for information about disability
- to refer people to the most appropriate place to meet their
needs.
Women with Disabilities, Australia
(WWDA) - is the peak organisation for women
with disabilities in Australia. It is a federating body of individuals
and networks in each State and Territory of Australia and is
made up of women with disabilities and associated organisations.
WWDA is a woman-centred organisation which works on a collective
model. This means that decisions are made using a consensus
approach. The national secretariat is located in Canberra, the
capital city of Australia. WWDA is run by women with disabilities,
for women with disabilities. It is the only organisation of
its kind in Australia and one of only a very small number internationally.
WWDA is inclusive and does not discriminate against any disability.
