  • Deafness Forum of Australia - "To improve the quality of life for Australians who are Deaf, have a hearing impairment or have a chronic disorder of the ear by:
    • lobbying government
    • making input into policy and legislation
    • generating public awareness
    • providing a forum for information sharing
    • creating better understanding between all areas of deafness
  • Better Hearing Australia - The objects of Better Hearing Australia are:
    • To encourage the preservation of hearing of all people.
    • To encourage the use of preventative measures to lower the prevalence of deafness and hearing impairment in the Australian community.
    • To improve the communication of hearing impaired people, their families and friends.
  • Australian Deafness Directory -  has been compiled to assist Deaf people and people with Hearing Impairment, their families and friends, and all who work with them. It is hoped that it will fill the need for a quick and accurate guide to many organisations and services of and for Deaf people and people with a Hearing Impairment in Australia.
     
  • Australian Association of the Deaf (AAD) - The Australian Association of the Deaf, Inc. (AAD) is a national, voluntary consumer organisation that represents the views of Deaf people who use Australian Sign Language (Auslan).
  • Deaf Australia Online - The project is examining how Deaf people prefer to carry out activities in their daily lives such as study, paying bills, shopping, communicating with family and friends, and getting information on government services. Preferred solutions for online services to meet the needs of Deaf people will be recommended.
  • Australian DeafBlind Council - The purpose of ADBC is to be a national council representing people who are deafblind, their support networks and organisations working in the field.
  • Lions Hearing Dogs Inc - We provide Hearing Dogs and training in their use to hearing impaired people throughout Australia. Our clients are people with a hearing disability, they live in all parts of our country and just like everyone else, they want to manage their lives with as much dignity and independence as possible. Lions Hearing Dogs are trained in a particular work task, Sound Awareness.  Our specially trained dogs and services are free to those we serve, thanks to the donations, time and freely given effort from the Australian "Lions International" organisation and our other generous sponsors, whom we list in our Sponsors page.


New South Wales

  • Deafness Council of NSW Inc. - We are a state level voluntary body working with specialist voluntary organisations involved in helping those with disorders of the ear and balance organs. We work with these organisations on public campaigns to inform workers and the public of the need to reduce the incidence of damage to hearing and balance organs. We make representations to Government, Industry Commissions, Workcover, the national organisation - the Deafness Forum, Health Department and disability organisations.
  • The Deaf Society of NSW (Alternative link)- provides a range of services for Deaf people who use Auslan (Australian Sign Language). The Society works within the community to ensure Deaf people achieve their full rights through:

    • Education
    • Research and Development
  • Waverley Library - Published Directories - Services For Deaf People - This directory has been produced by Waverley Council for people in the local area. It is designed to assist Deaf and Hearing impaired people, their families and friends, and the organisations who work with them. The directory lists organisations of and for Deaf and Hearing impaired people, listing TTY numbers wherever possible as well as phone and fax numbers.


Queensland


Victoria

  • The Victorian Deaf Society - VICDEAF (The Victorian Deaf Society) is the main provider of services to deaf people in Victoria. The Society is a primary source of reference, referral, advice and support for Deaf and hard of hearing people.
    • promote communication and understanding between agencies and individuals
    • provide financial and other assistance to people with hearing impairment and to organisations
    • promote research into all aspects of hearing impairment
    • publish information and to undertake community education programs
    • represent the interests of people with hearing impairment at individual, community, and all government levels.
  • Parents of hearing impaired children, Victoria - The printing and distribution of our newsletter "Link Up" to over 2,200 families of deaf and hearing impaired children throughout Victoria. Distribution is free through schools and services and visiting Teachers, but if parents want it mail directly, it costs $5 per year.

  • Deaf Infolink, Victoria - Deaf Infolink is an information service for people who are Deaf or hearing impaired, their families, friends, carers, and generic service providers. It also provides information and education to the wider community about the needs of Deaf and hearing impaired people.
  • V.S.D.C services for Deaf Children (Vic) - We respond to the needs of children and young people who are deaf or hearing impaired, and their families: providing information, support services and educational resources


Tasmania

  • Tasmanian Deaf Society Inc - To promote and advance the interests of all deaf and hard of hearing Tasmanians so as to maximise their opportunities to achieve their full potential and to have the community recognise their worth.


South Australia

  • Royal South Australian Deaf Society - Our Mission is to support the independent endeavours of South Australia's Deaf Community, through information, counselling,  interpreting, and advocacy services, and community Centre facilities.
  • Hearing Dogs - Hearing Dogs is a Lions project to assist the hearing impaired in our community to lead better, more normal lives. The dogs provide the ears to the hearing impaired or deaf. Hearing Dogs Open Day (Adelaide Hills, Sunday, November 28, 2000, from 10am to 3.30pm)
  • Whyalla Hearing Impaired Support Group - a group of people who wish to share their experiences of hearing loss with others. They understand the distress and loneliness which hearing loss can bring and wish to provide an environment of support to minimize  their stress


Western Australia

  • Deafness Council of W.A. - With sponsorship from Work Cover WA, the Deafness Council of WA are proud to present an internet site, possibly the first in the world, that contains information from many related organisations within Western Australia.
  • Resource Unit for Children with Special Needs - Mission: to promote, support and enhance the inclusion of children with additional needs in appropriate children's services and associated community activities".
    • Hearing Impairment Fact Sheet - Hearing loss needs to be diagnosed as early as possible and the appropriate treatment provided, if language and development delays are to be avoided or minimised.
    • Provides a range of services, including education, employment, information, interpreting, regional, social and youth services.
    • A community centre for social, recreational, sporting and educational requirements.
    • Promote Auslan and Deaf culture
    • Encourage independence, self advocacy and self determination of people who are deaf.
