  • Workcover Authority
    • Local Government Occupational Noise Management Implementation Strategy - Noise injury is an acknowledged workplace OHS risk factor. The incidence of workers compensation claims for hearing loss has been steadily rising over the past few years and is currently costing NSW around $100m in compensation payments each year. With this in mind a project was proposed to WorkCover NSW under the WorkCover New South Wales Injury Prevention, Education and Research Grants Scheme with the ultimate outcome of by "the year 2004 substantially reducing the number and average cost of hearing compensation claims submitted by local government workers".

A prescribed workplace is one where workers receive a personal noise dose above 90dB(A) per 8 hour day or its equivalent and where such a day is representative of the worker’s long term exposure.
