GORDIE

Male Poodle X Spaniel

Aged approx. 2 years

Medium size

Gordie is looking for a very special home because he suffers with separation anxiety. Gordie has been in foster care with a dog trainer for a long period of time. His trainer has been walking Gordie for two hours a day everyday rain, hail or shine, plus he has time on the doggy treadmill and still has more energy left in his tank. Gordie has also been taken to training classes in the local area and is excelling because he is a very smart dog who learns everything asked of him quickly. Gordie's foster carer/trainer now feels that he is as ready as he will ever be to go on to a new home. We want his new home to be forever and not just another step in the wrong direction as has been the case in Gordie's past life. Gordie's trainer believes that a home on a dog safe property on acreage with other dogs to play and exercise with will suit him as he does do well in a pack situation. A suburban block of land with a fence all around is not going to suit Gordie at all as he will become bored and bark and be a very unhappy dog. Gordie's new owners must also be 'home bodies' not working people because his anxiety levels are raised when he is without his humans. An active retiree single person or couple is going to work best for Gordie and of course it goes without saying that he must always have access to his humans via a doggy door or similar 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Gordie has a beautiful temperament and loves playing with his toys and doggy friends. It is going to take someone who is very committed to Gordie's routine and exercise program so a home with someone experienced will be the best for him moving forward. Gordie has a high maintenance coat that will require regular clipping and grooming.

Gordie comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400 and is not available for adoption outside NSW (except ACT). If you would like more information on Gordie, please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. Before phoning or emailing, please check Denise's rescued dogs in foster care on www.paws.com.au for any updated photos and to make sure this dog is still available for adoption.

REX

Male Poodle X Shih Tzu

Aged approx. 4 years

Small size

Rex is such a huge personality that wherever he goes he receives compliments on his wonderful looks and endearing demeanour.  Rex is in foster care with other small dogs and gets along very well with them. He loves going out in the car or just hanging with his foster carers who think that he is a fantastic little dog.  A home with a family who have another small dog will be best as he does love the companionship. Rex also loves to play, go for walks and will sleep all night long in his bed.  Rex would like a home where there are no cats as he is not good with them. He is house trained, uses a doggy door and has a coat that will require ongoing grooming and clipping to keep it in good condition.

THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE FOR THEIR KIND DONATION TO HELP REX

Annette Lowe            Marie Hutchinson

Rex comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $400. He has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic) and surgery to repair a 'cherry eye'. If you would like more information on Rex, please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. VINNY

Male Maltese X

Aged approx.  6 years

Small size

Vinny was rescued from Campbelltown Pound after his owner did not claim him. When Vinny went into foster care he was very timid and shy but is now becoming more confident every day. It's great to see his little tail wag as this is something he didn't do when first placed in foster care. Vinny is a happy dog that is affectionate and with a great personality. Vinny has lots of energy and loves to go for a walk, especially in an off leash area where he's happy to run around with the other dogs and come back when called. Vinny is living with other small dogs in his foster home and gets along well with them so it would be best if he's rehomed with another dog. Vinny had to be shaved back when he was rescued as his coat was badly matted but now that it's growing he'll need regular brushing and grooming to keep him feeling and looking great. The best home for Vinny will be with a family who have older children or a retired or working couple. Vinny will make a wonderful companion as he is a real little character and a house dog who loves his creature comforts.

Vinny comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $425 and the adoption fee includes his collar and harness. He has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic) and is not available for adoption outside NSW (except ACT). If you would like more information on Vinny, please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. Before phoning or emailing, please check Denise's rescued dogs in foster care on www.paws.com.au for any updated photos and to make sure this dog is still available for adoption.

BERTIE

Male Shih Tzu X

Aged approx. 5 years

Small size

Bertie is the sweetest little Shih Tzu boy with a face any mother would love! Bertie was reluctantly surrendered by his family because they have moved house and the new home is unsafe for him. He was a much loved family pet living with his family for the past three years and does suffer with a degree of separation anxiety so needs a home where his owners do not go out to work each day. A retired couple or a stay at home Mum who will walk Bertie up to school to pick up the children each day would be great for him. Bertie is house trained and loves to curl up in his bed or on your bed at night time. He enjoys playing with his squeaky toys, throwing them up in the air with absolute delight and he will go to his new home with a plentiful supply of toys. Bertie enjoys going for walks and snuggling up with his doggy friends so must have a doggy companion in his new home. He has a lovely black and white coat that requires regular grooming and clipping to keep him looking great. Bertie is a house dog and must always have indoor access via a doggy door or similar.

Bertie comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $425 and the adoption fee includes his collar and harness. NELSON

Male Shih Tzu X Maltese

Aged approx. 18 months

Small size

What a funny little fellow! Nelson is all boy with the strut and the barrel chest and takes his job of watching the neighbours VERY seriously. He LOVES a walk, investigating everything on the way, and his recall off-lead is incredible. If you call his name he stops what he is doing and races back to you, tail carried high with the excitement of the adventure. Nelson came into the system in a terrible state, horribly neglected and unwell, but there is no more of that nonsense for this little man as life is for living. Nelson adores humans and would be quite happy to hang out with you. He has been temperament tested with children and his foster carer believes he would do best with children over 9 years old who would love and cuddle him and take him everywhere. Nelson love to 'ride' bikes, 'play' cricket and go to the river (he rocks the dog paddle!) with them. He isn't a fussy eater, sleeps all night happily without a peep, is good in the car and 100% housetrained. Nelson has had all of his routine surgery but also needed to have a rogue baby tooth removed that wasn't where it should be. He also had surgery for entropion, a condition where the eyelashes grow and rub onto the surface of the eye. This would have been very painful for Nelson but it has been fixed now and will not reoccur.  Nelson is a house dog with a coat that will grow and require regular grooming.

Nelson comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $425 and the adoption fee includes his collar and harness. Nelson is not available for adoption outside NSW (except ACT). If you would like more information on Nelson, please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. JAMIE OLIVER

Male Terrier X

Aged approx. 2 years

Small size

Just like his namesake, Jamie Oliver loves to be in the kitchen where the action is! Jamie Oliver is in foster care with a West Highland Terrier who has the lovely name of Ewan McGregor. Jamie and Ewan are great mates and literally play for an hour at a time. There is also an ex-PAWS Cairn Terrier in residence whose name is Merlin that is an older boy aged 13 years and he sits under the dining room table watching the antics of Jamie and Ewan, making sure that these young lads don't have too much fun! Jamie Oliver's foster carer describes him as being as good as gold. His carers left Jamie Oliver and his foster brothers for a good part of the day not long after he went into care with them and Jamie Oliver was very excited to see them come home. He has learnt quickly that he won't be left alone every day. Jamie Oliver went to his foster home on Sunday, learnt all about the doggy door on Monday and by Tuesday he had it down pat. Jamie Oliver is such a lucky boy as he is allowed to sleep all night long on his foster carers bed! We like this and so does Jamie Oliver who, after having a rotten life, is enjoying living in paradise with his foster family are on acreage so there is lots for him to see and do. Jamie Oliver runs down the back of the property each morning and tells the cows to get out of his yard! He is eating well and is now a very happy little boy. Jamie Oliver's new home must have another dog for company and he will require exercise, love and lots of play to keep him happy. Jamie Oliver is a house dog that is house trained with a low maintenance coat that will require brushing, bathing and trimming to keep him feeling great.

Jamie Oliver comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $425 and the adoption fee includes his collar and harness. Jamie Oliver has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic). If you would like more information on Jamie Oliver, please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. DEWEY

Male Maltese X

Aged approx. 3 years

Small size

When Dewey came from the Pound he was found to be limping on one side quite badly and, when x-rays were done, Dewey was found to have an irregular right hip joint. There may have been trauma to the femoral head and pelvis that was not treated promptly, or he may have had a condition called avascular necrosis of the femoral head, in which case an irregular blood supply to the hip causes the top of the femur to die and erode. Both issues require him to have a femoral head and neck osteotomy (removal of the ball part of the ball and socket joint). Because there is also evidence of pelvic issues (his sacroiliac joint is irregular) it's quite likely he suffered some trauma to his pelvis. Dewey's left hock (ankle) is able to be hyper extended, most likely due to damage to the connective tissues and support structures (ligaments and tendons) and he may need to have further surgery on his ankle where it is fused so that he can bear weight more easily on his left leg.

Dewey will need expensive surgery to correct both of these issues but then he will go on to have a normal life and, most importantly, he will be out of pain. Dewey's surgery will be done by Dr Simon Whittaker in Newcastle. Donations to help us help Dewey would be most welcome!

UPDATE 25 JUNE:
On Monday 23 June Dewey made his way up to Newcastle for surgery that was performed by Dr Simon Whitaker. The surgery was successful and, once he has recovered from it, Dewey will be pain free. He is confined during the day at present but can go for a little wander around the house and garden when his foster carer returns from work. Two weeks on from the surgery, Dewey will be free to go wherever he likes, to climb stairs and to begin his physiotherapy and short walks. Dewey will be ready for rehoming in mid to late August once he has fully recovered.

Dewey comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $425 and the adoption fee includes his collar and harness. NIKKI

Female English Staffy X Puppy

Aged approx. 7 weeks

Medium size (when fully grown)

Nikki was taken out of Campbelltown Pound under of 'duty of care' after she was found dumped in a local park at 5 weeks of age. Nikki went straight to the vet from the Pound who discovered something was not quite right with one of her back legs. An x-ray was performed which showed that Nikki  has a fractured tibia (broken leg). It was also discovered that Nikki had two parasitic viruses (coccidiosis and giardia) as well as a urinary tract infection. After a few months in care Nikkiís leg is fully healed and she is clear of all viruses and infections. Nikki is now happy and health and ready for a home of her own. She is full of energy and loves nothing more then wrestling and rumbling with her foster brother Jake, a large Staffy X. Nikki is only small but has a big personality so will need a home with a family who will continue her training and give her enough exercise and stimulation to keep her out of trouble. Another dog for company is a must and we believe a male would be best as Nikki can be a little bossy sometimes, particularly with her female counterparts. Being a young, energetic, sometimes over enthusiastic puppy we believe a home with no young children would best suit Nikki as she does nip and jump (quite high). Nikki is good both on and off leash, can sit, stay and drop and is great to train as she is highly food motivated.

JAGGER  AND  HARPER

Male and Female Purebred Maltese

Aged approx. 8 years and 7 years

Small size

Harper and Jagger are extremely sweet and gentle little dogs that are both house trained, follow basic commands and are inseparable so it appears that was the case before they came into the care of
PAWS. They have spent significant time with their foster carer's grandchildren and were very playful and friendly but protective of their environment and of their carer. They are definitely not 'yappy' and very obedient and both are highly intelligent. It is absolutely essential that Harper and Jagger be rehomed together, preferably without other dogs or perhaps with an older dog. They are very timid, if not fearful, of their foster carer's dogs, and spend the majority of their time with their carer, having made their way from their bed to hers! They love to snuggle and it took a little while for this delightful duo to gain some confidence but, in that time, both have blossomed and their personalities have become distinct but one commonality is that both are extremely loving. Harper likes to take the lead and makes sure that she sleeps closest to her foster carer, whilst Jagger happily plays 'the underdog' sleeping further away. Another example, is that when they are fed in separate bowls, Jagger waits for Harper to begin eating before he partakes. Initially they were somewhat undernourished so currently enjoy three meals a day however this will be cut back to twice daily feeding as soon as optimum weight is gained. Harper isn't very interested in playing with toys and prefers tummy rubs, petting, and as much attention that she can muster from her carer, however she is definitely not demanding. On the other hand, Jagger loves to play 'fetch' and chew on his toys. Both Harper and Jagger can be energetic but they do prefer to relax and Jagger especially likes to watch TV! Their foster carer believes that these little beauties will make a wonderful addition to their forever home. Harper and Jagger are house dogs with coats that will grow and require regular grooming and clipping.

Jagger and Harper come desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and on heartworm prevention for the special adoption fee of $600 THE PAIR and this includes their collar and harness. Jagger and Harper have also both had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic). If you would like more information on Jagger and Harper, please please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. Before phoning or emailing, please check Denise's rescued dogs in foster care on www.paws.com.au for any updated photos and to make sure this dog is still available for adoption.

MANDY

Female Purebred Miniature Poodle

Aged approx. 2 years

Small size

Mandy was surrendered because she was too active for her previous owner's elderly Poodle. She is in foster care with a male Poodle and he and Mandy play continuously throughout the day, only stopping for a short rest and then off they go again. Mandy is an active girl so a home where she is going to have regular walks, another dog to play with ( a human will not suffice) and no very young children in the home is needed. Mandy gets along extremely well with other dogs and enjoys the good things in life (like a couch to sit on and a lap to cuddle up on) so a home where she has access to the inside of the house is essential. Mandy prefers her humans to be female and can be a little nervous around some men. Mandy is house trained and has a high maintenance coat that will require regular grooming and clipping to keep her looking and feeling great.

Mandy comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $450 and the adoption fee includes her collar and harness. Mandy is not available for adoption outside NSW (except ACT). If you would like more information on Mandy, please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. CHUBBY CHECKER

Male Purebred Maltese

Aged approx. 8 years

Small size

Chubby Checker came into care a complete, overgrown, neglected mess who needed a dental badly. When the vet looked into his mouth he was horrified with what he saw and, after quite a long dental, Chubby emerged from the surgery minus thirteen of his teeth! Chubby is feeling so much better now that his mouth is clean and he smells so much better. Chubby's skin was also disgusting and he was really overweight and very unfit. Chubby Checker is now on the Michelle Bridge's (doggy version!) 12 week challenge and the barrel is getting a waist! Chubby is also going for regular walks which he enjoys and is romping and playing in the garden with the other dog he is in care with. This dear little dog is deaf so that means he doesn't come when you call. It is also wise not to walk away from an open fridge when he is looking for food! Chubby often doesn't hear you come home and sleeps through the alarm so he needs to have another dog in his new home that can tell him what to do and warn him if needed. He loves going to the park and with training may be safe off leash in an enclosed park. Dogs who are deaf do respond to hand signals to give them instruction and learn quickly so will soon understand what you want them to do. Now that he is cleaned up, Chubby is learning to behave properly in polite society. He now sleeps quietly all night in his bed and waits nicely for his food. Chubby's skin infections and rash are all healed and he is much more comfortable. He will need regular grooming to keep him looking good. Chubby must go to a home where he has a doggy friend for company and he is a house dog so will require indoor access via a doggy door or similar.

Chubby Checker comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and on heartworm prevention for the special adoption fee of $250 and this includes his collar and harness. Chubby Checker is not available for adoption outside NSW (except ACT) and has also had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic). If you would like more information on Chubby Checker, please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. GWEN AND STEFFIE

Female Purebred Long Haired Chihuahuas

Aged approx. 9 and 8 years

Small size

Gwen and Steffie have had a bit of a rough road over the past couple of months but it is great to see that they are now really starting to turn a corner! After being saved from a long stay in the Pound and then having several major operations, these two sweet girls are coming out of their shell and would make delightful company for any loving owner. Although they might be small in size they are big in affection, Steffie in particular will be straight on your lap for cuddles any moment you take to put your feet up, while Gwen will appreciate any neck scratch or chin rub you can spare the time to give. These two dogs love being outdoors investigating and again, although small in size. can easily go for a 2 kilometre walk and still have energy to bounce around the house all day! Gwen is a creature of habit being quite an old dog as she likes her things in their place and doesn't like change. She sleeps in her dog basket every night, isn't interested in being on the furniture (beds or sofa) and mostly keeps herself to herself, although is very appreciate of affection and love if you go to her. Steffie is definitely the more bouncy of the two and will follow you round all day long looking for tummy rubs, then be on the sofa with you falling asleep on your belly or jumping round like a bouncy ball to greet you every time you get home from work. Due to these two dogs turbulent past, please expect them to take up to two weeks to get used to a new home. You will probably find they won't want to interact with you at the beginning and this is to be expected due to their ever changing surroundings recently, so don't be alarmed if they show no interest in forming a bond for a little while. They are best left by themselves and not rushed into affection as this can evoke a scared reaction from them to people they don't know due to unfamiliar territory. For this reason, these dogs would not be suitable for a home with young children (under the age of 16) or an environment with either other cats or dogs. These two dogs really need their prospective new owner to win their trust. At first Steffie can be very standoffish and quite frankly a bit snappy BUT she has proven on several occasions that, if you take the time to win her round, she will quickly become your best friend and start to follow you round for cuddles and lots of love. These two little dogs act as fantastic guard dogs, being quite noisy when they think the house is being approached (but not at any other time). They are more than happy being left in each other's company during the day so could go to a home with either a single or a couple who work full time but they still must have the time to give them a minimum of a 20-30 minute walk every day (if not ideally twice) and lots of love and attention in the evenings and weekends. Fully house trained, these two are a dream when it comes to toilet habits! Due to these dogs being the adventurous type and very small, you must ensure that all fencing is properly secured otherwise these two can double up as doggy escape artists!

Gwen and Steffie come desexed, vaccinated, wormed and on heartworm prevention for the special adoption fee of $500 THE PAIR and this includes their collar and harness. Gwen and Steffie are not available for adoption outside NSW (except ACT) and have also both had a recent dental (teeth cleaned under anaesthetic) and hernia removal. If you would like more information on Gwen and Steffie, please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. Before phoning or emailing, please check Denise's rescued dogs in foster care on www.paws.com.au for any updated photos and to make sure this dog is still available for adoption.

CHIPPER

Male Maltese X Silky Terrier

Aged approx. 12 months

Small size

Chipper is a young dog with lots of energy so requires regular exercise consisting of daily walks or a romp at the off leash park. Chipper was surrendered and previously lived with a female Poodle so he would really like to have a small, friendly dog for company in his new home. He is a house dog that is house trained and he always slept on the bed so it would be nice for this to continue in his new home. Chipper would also like a family with older children who would play with him and give him lots of cuddles. Chipper has a coat that will require regular grooming and brushing to keep him looking and feeling great.

POPPI

Female Shih Tzu X Maltese

Aged approx. 8 years

Small size

Poppi is doing very well in foster care ... she loves going for a walk and, when off the lead, comes straight back when called. Poppi gets very excited when her foster carer comes in door after time away from the house and shows her delight by dancing around, wagging her tail and jumping up and down waiting to be picked up for a cuddle. Poppi is super cuddly and has settled in with the pack in her foster home. One of the other dogs (a Pug) sometimes annoys her so she puts him in his place with a little growl and he soon gets the message! Poppi sleeps soundly all night on her foster carer's bed with two of her foster friends Sophie and Honey. Poppi's ideal home will be with an older dog who won't annoy her or a home as an only dog with a retired couple, single person or family who won't leave her alone for hours on end. Poppi has a varied diet in her foster home, enjoying fresh meat, chicken necks, some wet food, pig's ears and anything else that is on offer. Her coat is divine with beautiful markings and Poppi will require regular trips to the groomer to keep her looking and feeling great. Poppi is a house dog that is house trained and she must have access to the house via doggy door or similar at all times.

Poppi comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and on heartworm prevention for the special adoption fee of $250 and this includes her collar and harness. APRIL

Female American Staffy X English Staffy

Aged approx. 7 months

Medium size (when fully grown)

April is a beautiful Staffy (on the smaller side) that must find a new home or foster carer urgently as she is currently living with her previous owners who are unable to keep her much longer. April has a very nice temperament, loves to play with other dogs similar in size to herself and must have a doggy companion in her new home. She will require regular exercise and training with a family, single person or couple who are familiar with the breed. April is a house dog and will thrive in a family environment. She will win your heart and bring with her so much joy and love (plus that wonderful Staffy smile!).

April comes desexed, microchipped, FULLY vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $425 and the adoption fee includes her collar and harness. April is not available for adoption outside NSW (except ACT). If you would like more information on April, please email Denise using ADOPTION ENQUIRY as your Subject Heading. MIKEY

Male Maltese X Jack Russell Terrier

Aged approx. 6 years

Small size

Mikey came from the Pound a very thin and sad dog but not any longer as his foster carers (who are all young people) have shown him the good life. Mikey is living in a beachside suburb and is very loved by all who live in the house. He is taken on regular walks, played with constantly, always has a lap to sit on and gets cuddles and hugs whenever he wants. Mikey has a nice temperament and would suit a family who want an active dog to walk and play with. Mikey is a house dog that is house trained and has a fairly low maintenance coat.

WILLOW

Female Shih Tzu X

Aged approx. 8 years

Small size

Willow is a little Shih Tzu x that was originally rehomed from the Pound but when she had a veterinary check it was discovered she had mammary tumours so Willow's adoption did not go ahead. The Pound contacted us and asked if we would take Willow and see if surgery could successfully be done on the tumours so that she could find a new home. We agreed and Willow will be having surgery to remove the tumours, a full blood profile, x-rays and pathology to make sure there is no spread of the cancer to other organs. We have had many success stories with dogs who have had surgery for mammary cancer and these dogs are alive and well living happily with their new owners years after. Just like breast cancer in humans, mammary tumours in female dogs are treatable in most cases. Willow is in foster care with a little Cavalier Spaniel that she adores and her foster carer thinks she is a very special little dog. The surgery and subsequent pathology that Willow is having is costly so if you would like to donate towards her veterinary costs we would love to hear from you.

UPDATE 25 JUNE:
Willow has had her first surgery to remove some of the tumours present in her abdomen and the results so far are pleasing with pathology results telling us that the tumours were benign. Willow's surgery was long with many stitches required so further surgery will be done to remove the remaining tumours in about a months time. The vet is fairly confident that the next surgery should have the same result with pathology showing the remaining tumours to also be benign. We have everything crossed for a good result for Willow who is a very sweet and lovely little dog.

CASSANDRA

Female Silky Terrier X Maltese

Aged approx. 8 years

Small size

Cassandra came from the Pound a very sick, sad and sorry dog. The vet noticed that she was passing a lot of urine and blood so an ultrasound was done to diagnose exactly what was going on in her bladder. Cassandra was carrying a stone in her bladder (pictured below) that was almost as large as her entire bladder and she was in incredible pain and discomfort. Cassandra has had surgery to remove the bladder stone, along with a major dental as her mouth was also putrid. While doing the ultrasound to look at her bladder it was also discovered that Cassandra has a tumour on her spleen. Tumours on the spleen are usually benign but as we are looking to rehome Cassandra we canít wait to see what develops. Once she has recovered from her bladder surgery in 4-6 weeks time she will have a splenectomy (surgery to remove her spleen completely). Cassandra is another dog who has been terribly neglected in her past life and we are endeavouring to put an end to the years of neglect she has previously suffered and hope to find her a wonderful home once she has recovered from her next surgery. Despite her condition, Cassandra is very grateful for the attention she is receiving and rewards everyone with a wagging tail and a big kiss. Both of these surgeries come with a high price tag so all donations to assist Cassandra's vet fees will be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE 29 JULY: Cassandra has been diagnosed with a Portosystemic Liver Shunt (more info at www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/portosystemic-shunt-in-dogs/857 ) and will be having surgery in two week's time. She needs to gain some weight before then and is on a strict diet of Hills Prescription L/D (liver health diet). SASH (Sydney Small Animal Specialist Hospital) are doing the surgery which will be performed by Dr Andrew Marchevsky. Cassandra is a very sick girl at the moment due to the stress on her body caused from the shunt and she is on anti-convulsing medication plus two other drugs in preparation for the surgery. Dogs with liver shunts can suffer with seizures before and after surgery so the specialist wants to get the medication into her system two weeks prior as a precaution. Cassandra will also have her spleen removed while under anaesthetic for the liver shunt surgery and, once she has recovered, will feel like an entirely different dog!

GUINNESS

Male Purebred Shih Tzu

Aged approx. 10 years

Small size

Guinness's foster carer loves him to pieces and their ultimate wish is for him to be in a home where his new family are around a lot, perhaps with a retired couple or single person who have another little dog he can cuddle up to or play with when they are away from home. Guinness has lived for most of his life with another small dog so a home with another doggy pal is essential as it would be remiss of us to rehome him on his own. Guinness also enjoys playing with his toys and ripping them up (not all of them!), eating his meals and going on walks. He adores the male teenager in his foster home and thinks that his life is pretty good now, especially as he has claimed an arm on the lounge as his and this is where he sits getting pats and cuddles from his foster family. Guinness is house trained and is a house dog requiring access inside and out via a doggy door or similar. He has a coat that will require regular grooming to keep him looking and feeling his best.

TEMPORARILY WITHDRAWN

EDEN

Male Shih Tzu X

Aged approx. 12 months

Small size

Eden is a very cute little dog who found himself impounded at the tender age of 12 months. Eden was probably bought by a family as a young puppy but the love affair with puppyhood doesn't always last very long with the dog ending up in the backyard all alone, unloved and bored until the little dog finds an escape route and ends up in the Pound. Eden's foster carer thinks he is a lovely little boy. He is very playful, loves his toys and enjoys having a romp with the other dogs he is in care with. Eden would love a home with another friendly, playful dog of similar size and age, a family with older children who would play with him or a retired couple. He is getting along nicely with his house training and will require access inside and out via a doggy door. Eden will enjoy going out for walks to the park and cuddles with his family and has a coat that will grow and require regular grooming.

UPDATE 29 JULY: Eden was taken to Dr Alison (one of the Opthalmologists at SASH (Sydney Small Animal Specialist Hospital) for a diagnosis on his eye. Eden has been on medication for his eye since coming from Renbury Farm Pound but, as things were not improving, we felt a specialist visit was appropriate. Dr Alison believes that Eden has suffered with trauma to his eye at some stage before he came to us as his eye is very red and quite painful at the moment. If we do nothing he will continue to be in pain and will develop glaucoma so the best option for Eden is to have his eye removed. We want what is best for him so will go ahead with the surgery next week. Eden will feel so much better once he has recovered and can then go to a new home.

LIBERACE

Male Purebred Poodle

Aged approx. 7 years

Small size

Liberace came from Renbury Farm Pound in absolutely appalling condition and this poor little Poodle had been neglected for so long that it is beyond his rescuer's comprehension how he actually survived. Liberace was emaciated and had to have every tooth in his mouth removed as it was full of pus and, according to the vet, he had suffered in agony for a very long time. Liberace is now on four different types of medication and pain relief to ensure that the infection is cleared up very quickly. He also had an inguinal testicle that was removed from his stomach while he was having his desexing surgery. Aside from his mouth, the vet believes that Liberace has had a broken leg at some stage during his life and it's obvious that the break was not attended to and the leg was left to heal itself so that meant more pain and suffering for this little Poodle! X-rays have now been taken and sent off to an orthopaedic vet to see if we can do surgery to correct the bend in Liberace's leg but he is not in pain from it now that it has fused at the joint. Apart from all of his pain and suffering, Liberace is a great little Poodle that is enjoying being part of a doggy family in his foster home and he loves to lay in his bed all warm and cosy with the heater blowing on him. Liberace is currently on a diet of vegetables, brown rice and boiled chicken and loves it so he is gaining weight and is now a very happy little dog. Liberace would love a home with a family who will give him lots of love, something that has been sadly missing from his life for a very long time. He is a house dog that is housetrained if there is access to outdoors via a doggy door or similar. Liberace doesn't pay much attention to the other dogs in the household. preferring to have a human to give him pats and cuddles. He has a coat that will grow and then require regular grooming to keep him looking his best.

BOND

Male Schnauzer X

Aged approx. 12 months

Small size

Bond is a stunning boy looking very sophisticated and trendy with his Schnauzer colouring and very attractive face. Bond is also a very nice dog .... a bit 'busy' but you would expect that in one so young.  Bond's carer thinks that he is a busybody needing to investigate everything. If he's not playing with his toys or fetching the ball he is doing the gardening or entertaining his carer with his ballet pirouettes!  Bond is very affectionate and loves to cuddle up on the couch with his foster carer to watch TV at night and really does watch the screen which fascinates his carer no end. Bond is very receptive to basic commands and in a few days has learnt 'down' and 'sit'. He is a gentle boy that doesnít bark much and he settles down to sleep at night without a fuss. Bond is a house dog that is being house trained and he would love another small, friendly dog as a companion in his new home if at all possible. Bond has a coat that will require regular grooming and clipping to keep him in good condition.

WICKET

Female Purebred Pug

Aged approx. 5 years

Small size

Wicket is a very vivacious Pug that, due to a change in circumstances, has found herself needing a new home. Wicket has always lived with another dog so a home where there is a doggy companion currently living is a must.  She is extremely playful and currently spends her day playing up a storm with the resident Border Collie and Tibetan Spaniel.  Wicket is crazy about toys, especially balls that she will fetch and return for ever if you have the time, and enjoys going to the offleash park where she can run like the wind. Wicket is an active Pug so will need plenty of action time but at night she settles on the end of her foster carer's bed and snores all night long. We would ideally like Wicket to be rehomed with another Pug friendly family who are familiar with the breed but very small children will not be suitable as Wicket is a busy dog! Wicket is a house dog and must have access inside and out at all times.

PAISLEY

Female Purebred Cavalier Spaniel

Aged approx. 4 years

Small size

Paisley is a very sweet little Cavalier who has unfortunately been very neglected during her four short years as her previous owners did not seek veterinary help when it was urgently required and Paisley has suffered because of this. Paisley's ideal weight should be approximately 10kgs but when she arrived at the vet clinic she weighed just over 5kgs which was half the weight she should be. Paisley struck gold the day her owners finally took her into the vet clinic as they asked them if they would surrender her and they agreed. Paisley is now on the correct medication and food for her health issues (that will be lifelong) and they are:

1. Diabetes - she is on caninsulin twice daily

2. Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency - she makes no pancreatic enzymes so Paisley is currently given Creon capsules every time she eats.

3. Paisley is on  1.5 cups a day of Hills I/D dry food as we are trying to put weight back on her but this may reduce when she reaches her goal weight. Paisley did weigh 5.1kg and is now 8.1kg but we are aiming for about 10kg as her goal weight.

4. Paisley also suffers with dry eye and has cyclosporin drops once daily.

Paisley's daily maintenance bill would be between $8.50 and $11.50 but there would be a variation between actual cost and recommended retail as our PAWS rescuer Denise is happy to work with vets to get ongoing reduction in both the medication and food required for Paisley for the rest of her life.

Paisley has a lovely nature and is very adoring. She has regained her strength and energy and is now happy to run around but also loves cuddles and would sit on your lap all day if you allowed her. Paisley is a perfect little Cavalier but she does find cats very interesting and will chase them so a home without a cat would be best. Paisley would love a home as an only dog providing her owners did not leave her all day, or a home with another sweet little dog for company. Paisley's current veterinarian loves her and will assist with ongoing maintenance testing. We know it is a big ask to find a home for Paisley but there are a lot of people with very large hearts out there so we are sure one will step up to the plate and take Paisley into their heart and home forever!

BLOSSOM

Female Chihuahua X Puppy

Aged approx. 5 months (DOB 3 March 2014)

Toy to Small size (when fully grown)

Blossom is a tiny puppy that was rehomed to an elderly lady who couldn't cope with her energy levels and her puppy personality so, fortunately for Blossom, the lady surrendered her for rehoming. Blossom was not microchipped, had never been vaccinated and she certainly wasn't desexed so all of her routine vet work has now been done and she is ready to go to a new home. Blossom is only little and can be nervous around strangers but soon warms up and will lay cuddled in your arms or enjoy interaction with you while she is playing with her toys. Blossom has great social skills and enjoys the company of other dogs and cats so a home with another small, active dog will be best. We will not rehome Blossom as the only dog in the home and any resident children must be aged 10 years and over. Blossom will benefit from having new and various experiences as she is very adaptable. She is a house dog that is house trained and must have indoor access via a doggy door or similar. Blossom has a low maintenance coat that will require regular bathing and brush through.

Blossom comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and with NSW Local Council lifetime registration for $425 and the adoption fee includes her collar and harness.
