Very good commanders and good agents. Two artifacts. Very difficult position - only take it if you want a real challenge. The position is very spread out (almost as much as the Dwarves) so you can't see much of what's happening near you. Worse yet, the DS have you by the throat at game start. You have very little choice but to go DS by game end, but a FP move makes things interesting. But the FP know that and are also sitting nearly on top of some poorly defended population centers. Your capital is nicely isolated and defended, but the Cloud Lord's agents are a near neighbor.

The nation of the Easterlings refers to the collection of peoples who occupy the north central region of Middle-earth. This region encompasses part of Rhovanion and all the lands south to Khand. This diverse nation includes the tribes of the Sagath, Logath, Asdriags, Nuriags, and the Variags. Loosely led by Tros Hesnef in the north and Ovatha II of Khand in the south, the Easterlings represent a nation with great potential but numerous pitfalls to overcome.

The greatest strength of the Easterlings lies in their fierce and brave warriors, especially their much-feared cavalry. Competent commanders and numerous warriors make this mobile threat very real indeed. The quality of competition among potential Commanders allows new Easterling Commanders to begin with a Command rank of up to 40. Furthermore, because of the rich martial traditions of the indigenous peoples, Easterling troops without food will still gain 1-2 Morale points when stationary and will only lose 1-2 Morale points when traveling. Furthermore, Easterling troops only lose 1-2 Morale points for a Forced March (2-5 points without food). Additionally, the rugged nature of their wild lands results in many Easterling characters having a chance of possessing greater Challenge ranks. This often makes them more deadly than appearances would indicate.

Their skilled Mages and adequate Agents help make up for the lack of political envoys, and the abundant availability of resources provides the Easterlings with a rich base for growth. The prudent use of those resources allows for greater expansion and acquisition of more skilled Emissaries.

The most difficult barriers to be overcome in the Easterling's plans of conquest are the lack of central command and the dispersal of their forces over much of Middle-earth. Furthermore, numerous potential enemies border the Easterling's realm. To the north are the Northmen, the Éothraim, the Long Rider, the Dog Lord, and the Dark Lieutenants. To the south are the Quiet Avenger, the Blind Sorcerer, and the Cloud Lord. Only the neutral Haradwaith and Corsairs present no immediate difficulties. For these reasons, the decision to choose allegiance must be carefully considered. A choice made too early could cost the Easterlings half their realm.
