ME-PBM 2950 Nation DescriptionFire King (#18)
Led by the Eighth of the Nazgûl, the Fire King, the nation of Ren the Unclean wields the most dedicated force among all the Dark Servants. From his main fortress inside Mordor, the Fire King's adept Mages and numerous Agents and military Commanders maintain constant pressure and vigilance on the Gondorian towers that surround Mordor and Ithilien. The armies of Ren are very dedicated, although not the most skilled, and are represented by a diverse mixture of races and peoples. His reliable servants have enabled the Fire King to begin preparing his forces, both military and arcane, in preparation for his own plans of expansion and complete domination. Because of the eager and indigenous foul servants that fanatically follow the Fire King, new Fire King armies have a base Morale rank of 40 and are hired at no cost. Additionally, Fire King troops without food will still gain 1-2 Morale points when stationary and will only lose 1-2 Morale points when traveling. Furthermore, Fire King troops only lose 1-2 Morale points for a Forced March (2-5 points without food). The fiery and fanatic control of the masses that is so much a part of the Fire King's extensive arsenal is further reflected by the unusual ability of all Fire King Mages to learn the lost Fanaticism spell. Furthermore, Ren the Unclean is capable of, and encourages, attracting foul hordes to his armies because all his Mages also have the ability of learning the lost Conjure Hordes spell. These rare spells further allow the Fire King to rapidly field a formidable army. However, the fanatic hordes of Ren the Unclean face a difficult situation. The mountain road that is guarded on the east by Barad Ungol, and to the west by Minas Morgul, is perhaps the most hotly contested pass in northwestern Middle-earth. Although the watch on Mordor has ceased long ago, strong armies of Northern and Southern Gondor are posted very close by. Furthermore, the Free Peoples still lay claim to the western side of this pass. This hot spot places military burdens upon the Fire King because of the pass's strategic importance to the other nations within Mordor. The temptation to attack is quite powerful but, if the pass is lost to the Free Peoples, much would be lost. Careful coordination with the Dark Lieutenants, the Ice King, and the Dog Lord could prove valuable. The skilled servants do provide alternative tactics to immediate military conflict. Gathering of information and direct challenge of the enemy's leaders are but two methods that could provide a safer way to weaken the Free Peoples, while at the same time improving the quality of these fanatic characters. This tradition of infiltration, assassination, and the personal duel is one that Ren the Unclean takes great pleasure in promoting.
