ME-PBM 1650 Nation DescriptionNorth Gondor (#6)
Although no longer the dominant force in western Middle-earth, the nation of Northern Gondor still controls a huge domain extending north from the White Mountains, east from the Gap of Isengard, west from the land of Mordor (with outposts still evident in Rhovanion), and south of Mirkwood. The blood of the Dúnedain runs richest here and the leaders of Northern Gondor are well-seasoned veterans of both foreign and internal conflicts. Because of the wealth of their experience, all new Northern Gondor Commanders can have a starting Command rank of up to 40. Led by King Tarondor, their armies are well-provisioned and well-supplied and have begun to reach their former proportions. These seasoned Northern Gondor troops only lose 1-2 Morale points for a Forced March (2-5 points without food). Furthermore, new Northern Gondor troops start with a Training rank of 20. Many strong cities and fortified towns are scattered across this vast realm and several navies help maintain Gondorian interests along the Anduin, as well as a route to the sea. The source of greatest concern for Northern Gondor is not their own might, but rather the extensive realm they must protect and the many enemies that reside on their borders. Many of the Dark Servant nations reside just across the unscalable mountains of Mordor. Furthermore, the watch on Mordor has been virtually abandoned. Thus, little information has been available recently regarding troop movements in the Dark Lord's former realm. Attention to these eastern borders has become an increasingly important element of the strategic plans of Northern Gondor. Furthermore, several powerful potential enemies, namely the Haradwaith and the Corsairs to the south, and the Dunlendings to the west, could present considerable concerns. The eventual allegiance of these nations could also dictate radically different plans. Although the military might of Northern Gondor is considerable, their economic power is perhaps more vital. Controlling markets and promoting good relations by assisting neighboring allies, namely the Éothraim and Southern Gondor, could provide more long-term security than the mightiest armies. Regardless, the Northern Gondor armies and navies provide a valuable military deterrent. At the height of their power, the Dúnadan produced many vast and wonderful works of construction. Witness the mighty towers of Angrenost (Isengard) and Minas Anor (Minas Tirith). In fact, many of the roads and bridges found in western Middle-earth are legacies of these former skills. However, some of this ancient knowledge still remains. This lore, along with their wealth of resources, allows Northern Gondor to build and improve its fortifications at 1/2 the normal timber cost.
